FilterBlade in 2022
Added 2022-01-05 02:14:58 +0000 UTCHey guys,
I wish you all a happy new year and I hope you're having a warm, relaxing and safe time.
Last year my filter received quite a few upgrades and FilterBlade did so as well. Here are some of the highlights released over the last year. Some of these were in work for over a year and your support significantly helped!
- Filter version 8.0 - the filter has been rewritten from the ground up and now uses a programming language designed by me (Exo) to specifically handle the POE filtering job much smoother.
- The filter received dozens of new modules, such as stacked currency and economy based cluster jewel filtering
- 11 styles were completely rewritten, some new some old
- FilterBlade has been migrated to AWS, boosting it's stability, performance etc. Essentially we have the entire backend and migrated the whole database. We can now finally handle all the 20k++ users who work simultaneously on filterblade on launch days!
- Quicksave, Auto-Load, improved presets and many more features have been added
But enough about last year. I'm about to reveal you how we're going to follow it up. While we don't know the full scope of the upcoming features, since many of these depend on how the game develops, here are some of the top changes and features:
- We intend to vastly simplify and streamline the UI of FilterBlade over this year. Merged save/sync/download functions, improved lootsimulator UI are just some of the upcoming changes
- Over the past 6 months we've been working on "FilterBlade-core". This is a very complicated endeavor, but we're making good progress. Essentially it'll enable auto-updating your filterblade saves, without you having to visit the site.
WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT THAT FEATURE: This is done by running the (fairly complex) algorithms that your gamer PC usually performs when loading-saving-updating in so called lambda functions in the AWS cloud. This feature comes with a large problem: it's computationally very expensive - for instance if we want to update every active public save out there every 4 hours, we'd have to run a dozen services in parallel and it it'll cost thousands and thousands of dollars per month. Depending on how optimization goes, this might become a Patreon/twitch sub-perk only, since it only provides QOL. GGG is OK with it, but I'm not entirely happy. Maybe I can enable auto-update for major version releases. I'm currently looking into options. We also can't make it into an offline tool, since a "secret" provided to us by GGG is required to talk to the GGG OAUTH API.
- Sortable List Rework - this is another technical architecture rework that was taking ages, but we're finally making strong progress. It enables many future features such as the following ones:
- Economy screen - a dedicated screen for tierlists, where you can define your own rules, tiering and it'll preserve that state within your save.
- A Revised and improved custom rule engine for FilterBlade!
- More and improved presets for FilterBlade. We want to supercharge that feature with new and powerful functions and improve the UI in general
- Completely reworked influenced item tiering
- Advanced auto-tiering algorithms in my filter
- Custom Strictnesses
- QOL improvements for the BaseType Matrix Tool on filterblade
- More styles
- Whatever improvements the filter needs to best fit into the game!
I hope these features speak to you. Have a wonderful day!
