Added 2024-12-27 03:11:17 +0000 UTCMan crazily enough, so far all I've really seen in my YouTube comments about this season are complaints about how "boring" it is or how it "sucks and will never live up to the first season", but do people not understand that this isn't the purpose of this season?
Season 1 was so novel and out of control with its reception that nothing, let alone a second season could even hope to live up to that. On top of that even, as the novelty has worn off and this season expands on the story which many of us are already familiar with, things are going to feel new but familiar, and exciting, but in a different way: here we have the excitement of kind of knowing how this thing goes, as opposed to the shock factor that season 1 had.
That said, I think this season so far for me is so much more about paying attention to the social commentary and underlying themes - something which I didn't really pay much mind to in season 1. Season 1 for me was so much more about action and death and the tough to watch scenes that the underlying themes didn't hit until later, whereas this season is the opposite. So far, its a really refreshing change of pace and whilst action and pew pew pew KABOOM is great and all, seeing these characters become more complex and lines blurring between who/what is right or wrong is so much more enjoyable for me.

Damn you said it perfectly. Same game, new characters, nostalgia and just pure tension. They did that so well. Only on episode 3 but I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this season more than the first. Glad I started this with you, Lok!

2024-12-27 05:44:10 +0000 UTCi totally agree, also idk what people expected. season 1 is great, but season 2 is also good. generell i dont think its boring or bad at all. people just love to complain. people saying season 2 wasnt needed is also weird to me. yeah, when you think about what season 1 stands for, i get it. but within the squid game universe, just having 1 season would have felt so incomplete. definitly not disapointed in this season

There's so much more depth to this now than just "woooo look at all those people dying damn" and I like that a lot for whatever Season 3 looks like.

But as my brother and I were talking, we have been loving this second season. The writing and characters have been incredible to watch and enjoy. The acting has stepped up from the first season. The first season was like, βdamn, people are dying.β This season is me hoping for particular characters to make it. And now we have two episodes left, lmao. We had to force ourselves to stop and finish tomorrow. It's a great second season.
