More nightscape photographers are turning to Planit for powerful planning. MetroBlue is amazing for weather forecasting.

2025-12-05 11:58:56 +0000 UTCPlanit Pro is definitely the app I use the most. Complete and very powerful, by far the best planification tool, with new functions like aurora and weather simulations. Then I play a lot with Google Earth to scout from home before real life scouting. I also use several forecast app as Windy (owning a premium account as I use it for wark as well), Clear Outside and MeteoBlue for weather planification. During shooting, I sometimes use the exposure Pills from Photopills as a quick way to calculate the correct long exposure settings from the test shot settings on site.

Clear Outside for real-time bortle info and Windy for satellite and cloud model forecasts. HRRR model (via web) for smoke forecasts. But Photopills is my primary.
