Static
Added 2021-02-12 16:48:25 +0000 UTCA piece about being lulled into a sense of mindlessness.
* * *
The crackling static coming from the old television’s speakers was distracting. The constant shifting tones made it hard to focus, and easy to just drift, like you were listening to a white noise generator. The constant fuzz was starting to make your brain feel fuzzy.
At least, it was just fuzz, wasn’t it?
But you could swear that there was a pattern to it.
And maybe even a voice?
Or was it music?
You couldn’t tell. But now you were focusing.
On the static, on the screen, as your own mind filled up with fuzziness.
And then the static was replaced with a voice, as the screen, which had been blank moments before, filled with a spiral. Instantly grabbing your attention, your mind was overwhelmed as the voice flowed into your ears. You sank to your knees, mind full of static.
