Mapmaker Update - May 2018

Want to see something wild?

Two years ago today we started one of my favorite Friends at the Table projects ever...

Marielda!

So, in honor of the two year anniversary of that mini-season, I opened up the old Roll20 Blades in the Dark/The Quiet Year game, grabbed all of our maps for that season, and built brand new sheets for the PCs and the crew using the higher quality PDFs than the simple Roll20 fillable fields. These are all fillllled with spoilers, and represent the state of things in the very final moment of play. So if you haven't finished that season yet, maybe hold off on these!

Also, there's a chance you're seeing this and saying "wait, I don't support at the Mapmaker level, what's up with that?" Well, we decided that for this one, since it's also just over our one year Patreon anniversary, it would be a cool idea to make this one free for everyone. Partly because some of this stuff--like the map above--has been available in some form or another online for a while now. And of course, partly because it's cool to see what sort of stuff comes out of the various tiers!

In any case, I'll shut up now and let the maps and sheets speak for themselves... Minus one editorial comment, because all these years later, Sige Coleburn still can't help but make a mess of things! Enjoy!

Sige Coleburn

Hey, Sige's sheet looks different from the rest, doesn't it? Weird, right?

Well, that's because, as you might remember, we started Marielda before Blades in the Dark was actually finished. And while every other playbook above feature some minor changes, the Cutter was seriously nerfed by the time it was fully released. Like... big time. Moves like Brutal were totally playbook, while others (like Not to Be Trifled With) were dramatically changed to reduce efficacy.

And that's understandable, because just passively having Potency counting as a small gang in combat all the time is incredibly powerful! If Sige was remade today, he'd be a much less powerful fighter. Which is fascinating, right? Especially given all the drama of the final encounter, much of which hinged on Sige's unique ability to overpower the rest of the party in an attempt to achieve his noble ends.

Ah, but thankfully, we know that the terrible power of reconfiguration was halted in its place, and Sige's heroic acts will remain until the end of time... right?

Anyway, on to the Crew sheet, which also needed some light editing to match the sheet as we played it!

The 6ix

Mapping the City of First Light

Below are the maps we used across each of the game's major arcs, barring the 6ix's initial ride on the Train, which we unfortunately cannibalized for the final train sequence.

I love love love seeing this rough draft of the city from our game of The Quiet Year, and to this day I'm amazed to see the great work Janine did in transforming it into an amazing, in-world map of the island. (Which you can see at the top of this post!)

Return to the Train

The Killing of the King-God Samothes By The Traitor Prince Maelgwyn

Aaaaand one last note, whoops. You'll note that there are strange error images here. No idea what happened here, but I CAN assure you, they were basically just stair icons, showing where different layers of Samothes' volcano home connected to each other. Maybe this is more reconfiguration at work? If there hadn't been a stairwell to the Forge, Divine, then... well, everything would be different, wouldn't it?

Thanks so much for opening this up to all the patrons! It's a really cool read that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.
