[Poll] Telekinesis Mechanical change
Added 2021-12-04 20:45:51 +0000 UTCHello everyone, Corintio here!
After we introduced air attacks on version 0.18.1, I started to feel a huge need to improve the telekinesis because I really wanted to try some combos where Kalyskah would go up and then pull enemies in the air before going down with an attack. Then I realised that to do so wasn't possible because of the way pushing and pulling enemies currently works:
If you press the key, you push them, if you hold it, you pull them towards you. It takes 0.4 seconds for the hold input to be recognised... by that time, you might have fallen to the ground already and lost your chance to perform a cool air combo...
So I started to experiment with the idea of splitting pushing and pulling into separate keys, it was fun but then a problem appeared: We didn't have enough keys to split the telekinesis for people who play on the controller!
I thought and thought and came up with the idea of making that if people pressed Backward + Telekinesis, they would pull. Only pressing telekinesis and moving forward(Or not moving at all), they would push. I noticed that when it is like this it is a bit harder to try to move back to take some distance from enemies while also pushing them away.... but it does make it easier to understand the direction they are going.
Then I thought: "Ah... f* that! What if we changed the telekinesis in a way that the player would have complete control over where they are sending their enemies? What if we did that if you press right + telekinesis, you'll throw enemies to your right and so on? Maybe this would look even cooler! But it's a bit more complex than what we have now and this is why I'm creating this pool, to ask if should we...
Keep telekinesis simple?
By having Kalyskah pushing and pulling enemies with only one key so you don't need to worry about direction. Or should we...
Add a layer of complexity to this mechanic?
If we change it like this, the telekinesis would be able to be performed faster because you would be able to hold the telekinesis button, press the direction you want to pull\push enemies to and then move everyone towards that place. If no directional input is read, then Kalyskah would just push the enemies, like it is right now.
Although in my head the answer is number 2, I would like to hear people's opinions to know if we are moving in the right direction because well... a change is a change.

Adjust the float time using an on-off mechanism and have it tied to kalys stamina. You should be able to keep it simple with one press to turn it on and another press to turn it off while allowing directional control with the movement keys. Feasible, but combat needs to remain fluid and not stop-motion. Fluid combat is far more satisfying than technical combat.

2021-12-04 21:10:27 +0000 UTCIt's possible but this would keep telekinesis only working in 2 directions

2021-12-04 21:04:11 +0000 UTCIs it possible to implement a double tap mechanic? i.e. Stationary single press or moving would initiate a pull. A double tap would activate a push.
