[Question] Vampire powers

Hello everyone!

Considering that for the next two months we want to improve life in the world by polishing NPC mechanics and adding world events and encounters (while also creating new quests), we are probably three months from polishing our combat and skill system. And this will require a lot of planning!

So I'm coming here today to ask you what type of powers you would like to see on Kalyskah. What do you think is essential for a vampire to have?

And what do you think it's not essential, but a cool power for a vampire?

Let us know your thoughts because they might highly influence what we design in the future =)

Comments

Essential Vampire Abilities : 1) Charming Neutral AND Hostile NPCS. Neutral for opening up new dialogue choices AND Hostile as a way to take on multiple Mobs with Crowd Control... (Perhaps through either charming enemies to fight for you or instilling them with horror that could be accomplished by transforming Kalyskah's appearance during the attack) 2) Summoning a Lesser Undead to fight with you for a brief time. Calling forth a Zombie, Skeleton or perhaps a Ghostly Apparition would be fantastically fun. COOL Vampire Powers : 1) I loved being able to turn into Vapor Form in the first dungeon. Unless I am doing something wrong now, I am hoping in the future in vapor form to be able to pass through metal grates as one section of the sewers seems worth exploring further if I could just pass through the grate... 2) Conversing with the Dead and the Undead... Few games have GHOST NPCS that give out quests and surely Kalyskah's history includes many colorful figures who might not have been able to pass on and are now haunting the world until she helps them with one last task... 3) A Castle to call her own. Giving the players the ability to craft their own CASTLE would be incredibly FUN, and 4) Finally An Ability related to the NEW ICE AND SNOW biome you guys are currently working on ... The Ability To Call Forth a Layer of RIME to augment your armor, The Ability to FREEZE Enemies Solid for a short time... The Ability to Create Ice Platforms for Reaching New Vertical Areas... I Can't Wait!

This is how we are approaching the new negotiation system

I'd like to add onto this: it makes sense to give vampires the ability to supernaturally charm or intimidate the person they're talking to, the success of which would depend on Kalyskah's charm and/or how the player has spec'd into their vampiric power stats. Intimidation and charm should be possible otherwise via charisma and clothing options, but should also be available to someone who is trying to focus on their powers.

Awesome :)

Most of the ideas you gave, except for the ghoul, are already in our roadmap =D

Kalyskah Team

Seriously, Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines has some really good ideas of how a vampire game should be. Also, the different vampire disciplines.

Uthan The Perverse

Some things I'd like to see: - Some form of combat bite/blood draw, where you could struggle with an enemy while sucking a little blood before he can push you away or something like that (quick time event?) - Maybe as a sidequest or in some other form: the possibility to create a ghoul like in VtM: BL, a human, which you allow to drink your blood an who then becomes you follower, with slight enhanced abilites him/herself without becoming a full vampire - The ability to "glamour" people during dialogs to do or tell things they wouldn't normally. Like let you bite them, give some information, don't attack you, and so on - Some form of insanity/monster meter (again like in VtM), which is influenced by you actions like, sucking blood and stopping or killing the victim, being cruel or helping people. Consequences of giving into the darkness completly could be visual degradation (like the sith in star wars, or the nosferatu in VtM) and an uncontrolable animalistic blood rage you would have to suffer in intervalls.

How hard would it be to set a percentage if the opponent/person looks in her eyes? Most vampire lore says if you make eye to eye contact the vampire can stun or compel

Solstorm

Perhaps another look at passive abilities. Maybe take a cue from Bram Stoker's Dracula: The vampire can walk around during the day but their powers are limited. This could translate to Kalyskah having slightly less strength and stamina and not having access to certain abilities during the daytime.

EnigManic

would love to be able to enthrall enemies and "play" with them a bit

Nikoli

Seduction and charme is about avoiding combat

zaira

I totally agree to Phillip - keep things grounded but bring more of the stuff we never get to see in AAA games…

zaira

We rather not mix combat with nsfw content since it can cause a lot of debate relate to consent and violence.

Kalyskah Team

What about charme and seduction? Or is NSFW content reserved for sandbox mode?

zaira

This is a good point, but what you mentioned plus world events are exactly what we'll be improving for the next two months. That's why we plan to work on skills and spells only somewhere around three months. We plan to add more impact to the attacks, blood on the ground when someone is cut, on the body and weapons of the character, improve the responsiveness of the input and things like that. But all this need to be done with what will come next in mind so everything ties together when we start adding new features.

Kalyskah Team

Floating/flying or higher jumping Invisibility for stealth Super speed for faster combat or just casual running Temporary enhanced powers at night? Brief teleportation? Like in combat could teleport behind an enemy?

I think biting and immortality is enough. Better to keep the player-character as grounded to reality as possible, otherwise the game runs the risk of becoming silly and breaking immersion. I'd much rather you guys work on polishing melee combat, as it is currently beyond janky. Also, give the player more weight. When you jump, you should come straight down, not float back to the ground like you're jumping around on the moon. Outside of that, working on NPC's and collision detection should probably be towards the top of your list. At this point in my save file, almost all of the NPC are either stuck behind a door or suspended in mid-air outside of houses. I believe you have enough game there for the time being to shift focus to polishing what is already there before adding new things. Better to get these issues sorted now while the game is still small.

Maybe a way to draw blood from a target from range like Kain does from the Legacy of Kain games

Lance Uppercut

We have plans for that on the new negotiation system =D

Kalyskah Team

This type of suggestion we will have on the new negotiation system. Kalyskah will ba able to use sorcery to make bandits walk away =)

Kalyskah Team

Shapeshifting into a wolf is actually on our roadmap! But the swarm of bats will have to wait until chapter 1 is done because flying could break the feel that Kalyskah is trapped inside the quarentine zone.

Kalyskah Team

Ability to paralyze momentarily to either bite them or to dash away. Suggestive Mind Control speaking (like Obi-wan in Star Wars) i.e. "I'm not who you're looking for". For something cool, would be to turn into a Bat or Wolf for a short time.

Neshotah

Some sort of shape-shifting? Bats and wolves tend to be the two biggest for vampires, i believe. Maybe like a wolf form for combat and a bat form for travel?

Mind control/hypnosis - either have them fight for you or drain there blood easier...or for other seductive fun...hehe, could also add it in for dialog choices if need be, like... example being trying to convince that crazy bandit during the heirloom quest.
