Page Commentary No. 67

Psu: Isn't this next page the balance joke?

Gunwild: We just did that one. Although it's on this one too. Oh right, this is her actually doing the pun.

Psu: No no, we did the one where they crush it. Now Peia makes her first Balance Pun. Yeah that's the ticket. (We can probably include that.)

Psu: Two things I wish I did on this page. I wish I added the dark tones to Peia and Theira's hair. Two, again it's a shame it's not in color.

Gunwild: I have a feeling Cassiopeia wakes up after a nap, has breakfast with Zeke, then goes right back to sleep...

Psu: She probably has a word for it, like "siesta" only sillier.

Gunwild: Cassiop-eista. Cassiesta? Word-things are hard...

Psu: The Peia Sleep. A Cass Nap. One of the things I like about your writing, and has shown up in Cassiopeia Quinn a lot, is being able to reuse dumb one off jokes and have them feature throughout the whole story. So Quinn Ice Cream Ventures, when we came up with it I was just sketching around and we used it as a page update when I panicked because I didn't have any page ready.

Gunwild: I think we learned that from, you know, long-running comics and TV shows (Is there anything we do that The Simpsons didn't influence?). Like, obviously we're quite capable of running a decent joke into the ground. Everyone is. But it's nicer when we can take one and then turn it into something else. A callback that's just a callback is something I used to want to do all the time, but now I'm starting to see that a runner is more fun for the audience if it's different or re-contextualized every time.

Psu: I think it's also fun for when we go over our comic like this, or whenever we just felt like reading the comic again. We can see something we'll want to pull from that we want to use in a current story. Speaking of pulling, I really like the concept here for the holo files. If you're talking efficiency, nothing is more efficient than just a computer running a search algorithm. But for workers, and our puny human brains, we like tactile things so I figured on the Holo Tower of notes that you can scroll through and pull "psychical" files out to read. It can be more fun when you're passing some data to your friend even if she doesn't feel like looking at another spreadsheet.

Gunwild: Boring writing note: If we were doing this page now, in the last panel I would have the word "balanced" bolded for emphasis. I learn things over time!

Thanks for the reply! Loved my first couple of read-throughs but I guess I missed a fair bit. Gotta love Peia's self-satisfied punwork.

It's at the end of the initial story, too, when Cassiopeia returns there.

Is this the first mention of Planet Munro? Too lazy to go back through all the previous pages... wondering if the reference is as straightforward as I think it is... then again, I'm kinda dumb.
