Gunwild: You pretty much wrote the last one. This one was my answer to that, I guess, I had to pitch it to you.
Psu: I really love the framing in all these panels. There's a lot of playing going on with how the closeup of the first panel makes it look like a bigger object than it is and then there's the emotional bubble in panel 2. In fact panel two could be looked at as a 4 panel comic on it's own. Each corner of panel 2 displays a different piece of information. And then panel 3 is nothing but determination.
Psu: It was really good to make Madison Vrax a good egg. It's too easy to make the losers of space adventures just "jerks that deserved it." Though we have a number of those.
Gunwild: Somebody asked last time if Maddy got her vision corrected at some point, and that's why she doesn't wear her childhood glasses anymore. That is the case. I'm inclined to think that they were operated on when she set out to become a military officer. Probably something she decided to do when glasses were getting in the way of her lifestyle.
Gunwild: We do know she wore them in her teens. In fact, that's the subject of this week's Art Update!
Psu: Spoilers!
Psu: Of note, a couple other hidden cameos. There's the Jade Rabbit t-shirt. I think I've made no secret of the fact that I played a lot of Destiny. (And I intend to go back to it the minute Destiny 2 comes out) There's also our first refence to MALK. I imagine in our space future, MALK could be a really nutritious long lasting substitute for having farms of Space Cows. Showing Jupiter's "big red dot" however could be another kind of anachronism. Word has it, that it's disappearing! If that's the case, then it's possible this scene may haven taken place in a different but similar location! But it's probably Jupiter. I think we didn't set that particular detail in stone yet.
Gunwild: I tend to think it's not.
Gunwild: We just watched the Simpsons episode featuring "Malk" together, in fact. What a tour de force.
Psu: Budding space captains have to take care of their bones.
Psu: Panel 3 makes me think of Nausicaa or Alice going down a rabbit hole. What's it with young adventure girls dealing with dangerous plantlife?
Gunwild: Kids aren't afraid of animals. They like animals.
Psu: Like Jade Rabbit.
