Gunwild: Probably people reading this can determine that Cassiopeia is Lum from Urusei Yatsura. Zeke's costume is a bit subtler, what with him not having a face.
Psu: I'm still thinking about how we used to think of holiday strips as a chance to do something easy and quick.
Gunwild: Ehh, it still required cleverness and effort. Also you get to do stuff in them that fits nowhere else, like that unbelievably Yotsuba face in panel 3.
Psu: Oh no doubt it was clever. I was just lamenting a little about how our ambitions got even bigger ever since the success of the first few Christmas strips.
Psu: And I do remember you being very specific about the Yotsuba expression.
Gunwild: It came out so nicely...
Gunwild: I appreciate my own newspost here: "Zeke does have an app he's made which specifically tracks things that can kill Cassiopeia. He keeps recommending it to her... but she's waiting for the free version."
Psu: pfff, hah. I forgot that. It's kinda goofy and childish looking but Cassiopeia is pretty safe here. Well... relatively for her adventures anyway. She has a pretty keen eye and will more than likely catch the ones she knows aren't safe. It's a lot easier than calculating the trajectory to shoot a magnetic harpoon at a passing space ship anyway.
Gunwild: Either that or she'll chase her candy feast with some antidotes.
Psu: Isn't that sorta like Homer Simpson taking sleeping pills to cancel out the speed pills?
Gunwild: Anyway this has nothing to do with anything, but one thing that's rough about being an adult is that you can buy a lot of candy if you want, but there's really no way to replicate the weird variety you'd get as a kid trick-or-treating.
Psu: Unless we had some kind of random dispenser that we just have some online retailer fill every now and then...
Psu: Anyway, before that tangent, should we tell people who Zeke is?
Gunwild: Frankly, he's charming Southern jerk Rhett Butler, my dear!
Psu: I thought it worked well on him for sure, but gosh doing it in black and white lineart only gave us very few clues to work with. Maybe next time I'll just go with the Jack O'Lantern face like in the bonus art!
