I think he knows why she didn't show. That convo they had when Tish was snooping on them and he said since Mufasa and Sarabi would probably be a couple he didn't see why HE had to choose someone. I think he may be realizing his parents will require him to choose someone from the two families, and like Sarafina said, she's not a candidate.
