Chapter 1: The Dreamer.

(Dreamer's Perspective)

It’s late—past the point where night has quietly become morning and my body has started questioning why I’m still awake. The glow of my laptop paints the room in cold light as I scroll through the latest comments on my page.

“Why’s every chapter drowning in despair?”
“Feels like the characters are stuck in molasses.”
“This used to be thrilling. Now it’s… not.”

They’re not wrong. My recent work is heavy, grim, weighed down by something I can’t shake. Not because I’ve chosen to change my style, but because I haven’t been dreaming anything else.

I’ve dreamed for as long as I can remember. Every single night, without fail, I’m pulled somewhere else—a place I call the Narrative Dimension. Sometimes I arrive as the hero, dropped into quests I barely understand. Sometimes I’m the villain, which is never as fun as the movies make it seem. Most often, I’m only an observer, forced to watch cruel ideologies rise, tragic loves crumble, and desperate people make choices that can’t be undone.

When I wake, I write them down. That’s how I become a writer—retelling those dreams as stories. My readers love the variety, the strangeness, the sense that anything could happen.

But for weeks now, there’s been no variety. Just one dream. It always begins here, in the real world. Then the sky burns purple. Something vast blots out the sun. And in an instant, Earth is gone—swallowed in fire.

I close the laptop harder than I mean to. Enough for tonight. I turn on the white noise, put in my headphones, slip the blindfold over my eyes. The same routine I’ve followed for years to slide into whatever strange reality is waiting for me.

The moment darkness takes me, I open my eyes again—into space.

Not the painted backdrop of old dreams. This is sharp, endless black, pierced by stars that burn cold and far away. My skin prickles in the void’s chill. I pinch my arm and wince. Pain.

Then comes the voice. “Dreamer. Finally, our link is sustainable.”

I turn. Two eyes, vast and glowing violet, burn like storms inside dying suns. They’re the same eyes I’ve seen in every nightmare—just before the world ends.

Galactus.

The name rings in my head as though it’s always been there, waiting. The hum of his presence presses against my chest, heavy enough to slow my breathing.

“I have seen your dreams,” he says, his voice vibrating through me. “And your fear. You question your sanity.”

He’s not wrong. But this feels too solid, too heavy, to be a product of my mind.

I drop to one knee. “What do you desire, Lord Galactus?”

His massive face shifts—almost a smile. “You have manners. Unlike the others. What I desire is a meal worthy of the Lord of Hunger. I tire of the Marvel cuisine. Too many quantum servings. Too much cosmic salt.”

“That sounds rough,” I say before I can stop myself.

He hums, deep and approving. “A mortal who understands change. And you, Dreamer, know what I yearn for.”

My heart pounds. I keep my gaze fixed on his. His head lowers, those burning eyes drawing closer, until the very vibrations of his form press against me like a crushing weight.

“I want a slice of the Prime Universe,” he says. “Earth. The Real World. Serve me the heart of all existence—real and fictional—and I shall remake you into an Elder God.”

“Impossible,” I say. “Do not overstep your boundaries, Hunger Lord.”

The void shakes with his laughter. The sound shoves me backward, my lungs straining for air. Just as I think I’ll black out, the laughter stops.

“Your boldness borders on insanity,” he says. “I approve. Then hear my counterproposal: become my Herald in the Omniverse. Seek worlds beyond your home multiverse—rare, rich, alive with mana or steeped in seasoned death. Venture into the realms you know—anime, manga, webnovels, myths—and serve me.”

“And if I do?” I ask.

“Your planet is spared. My appetite will remain confined to the Narrative Dimension.”

I’ve walked those worlds my whole life. Now, the cost of passage has finally arrived.
