What's your opinion?

Some say A Song of Ice and Fire is actually sci-fi, I disagree. What do the patrons think? Science vs Magic.

I think its Magic. I think that when stories are in worlds where things happen and the characters don't know how or why then it can be considered Magic. In ASOIAF, the characters don't know how Quaith appears in dreams or how Mel gives birth to demon babies. As opposed to something like Foundation, the events are definable by the characters themselves based on an understanding that the scientific method has been used to validate things like space travel. It's interesting because the bridge between magic and science is often crossed over time as long as there are ambitious people. Look at our own history:) So maybe ASOIAF will transition towards understanding the science of magic.

Magic for sure. Sci-fi needs way more technical details and scientific restrictions. ASOIF can't be categorized as sci-fi just because its magic seems to have to follow certain "rules".

I'd believe it is a post-apocalyptic world ruled by dark forces.

Reading the books initially made me think it was just magic. However after listening to a range of different channels such as yourself, Order Of The Green Hand, Preston Jacobs and Secrets Of The Citadel(to name a few) for a long time, I've come to the conclusion that it must be a combination of the two. Things such as the dragons and the house of the many-faced god can definitely be attributed to magic, whist the geography (for example) has a definite basis in science.

I really don't think its sci-fi. Any explanation for it being sci-fi i've heard seems to be based on this conspiracy theory that all the magic in ASOIAF is actually science. However I haven't found any conclusive evidence for this in the shows or books. Is there something I'm missing?

ASOIAF is the first book I've read like this. I'm now to this world so I'd have to say magic. But for every magic there is a science behind it. Even if science can't explain it there is something there.
