Discipline Delivered Game Mechanics (Part 1)

For the first deep dive post into my plans for the game, I decided to go with a more detailed look at the core mechanics/gameplay loop that I had in mind. All of you who have tried the demo so far have an idea of the basic level of the kind of game this will be. You will select jobs which correspond to specific characters, severity/difficulty, implements, and offenses, then you will transition to a minigame where you will operate the spanking robot in order to make it perform more efficiently and get a higher score/rank and therefore more Performance Points (PP). As for what you do with these points, you will have to wait for a later post to understand their full use.

As most of you could see, the minigame for the hand implement was heavily inspired by Guitar Hero, DDR, and other more popular rhythm games. However in those games the notes were generated in specific patterns to correlate with a song being played. Personally I don't have the musical talent to write my own music for the hundreds of jobs that will exist in the final version of the game, and couldn't possibly get the rights to use any real songs in the game either, so rather than that I currently have a randomized note system which generates the notes/smacks you press. But to be honest I'm not satisfied with this totally randomized generation either, so I will do some experimentation at a later date to see how it can be improved on.

I'm sure many of you are curious about the other implement options that are planned, and if you played with the filter options you're already spoiled on what they'll be. Firstly I can say that all of the additional implements I have yet to add to the game will be unique minigames and not just Guitar Hero/DDR with a different skin. I'm currently taking inspiration from lots of games where timing minigames are used and have thought up a few of the mechanics for the implements already. In particular I think the Warioware series has helped a lot with brainstorming good possibilities. 

Naturally, all of the implements will be able to be used on every character as they're added to the game. However you won't have total free reign to use implements as you'd like. Jobs will be fixed with the implements that the client who requested the job wants you to use on the spankee. As jobs are generated they will have a specific implement they ask for and you'll have to use. But what if you really want to use a specific implement instead?
