A New Project (demo)

Hello everyone, it's been quite a long time since my last update. Due to other real life obligations taking my attention I was unable (and often unwilling) to continue development on SQII and other projects of mine. The tedium in working with RPGMaker kept me from committing to ideas I had, and I didn't have any motivation to continue. 

In the time between my last posts and now I've experimented with a few ideas I had in other engines, game concepts that go beyond what is possible in RPGMaker and have more unique gameplay elements than walking around and talking to people. At one point I returned to an old project I made for a game jam several years ago, a spanking based rhythm game. I was happy with what I came up with in 2 weeks but I also knew that as far as a full game it left a lot to be desired and would require rebuilding from the ground up. After lots of brainstorming and planning, I finally came up with a full game concept that I think will be entertaining and worth working on. 

At the beginning of April I was laid off from my job of 3 years. During the months leading up to this sudden change I was working on this project in my free time as a hobby with the hopes that I'd be able to make a public release one day. After I left my job I rapidly sped up work on the project, hoping to monetize it and help with my finances now that I was without regular income. Despite that I still stand by my old policy on content on Patreon and I won't be paywalling any updates I make, aside from early access for people who still wish to support my work.

I come here today with a demo that has the major gameplay elements (by far the most complex components) completed. For those who remember my original project, the premise is very similar. You take the role as a (currently faceless) employee at Momoiro Discipline Solutions, a company that exists in a (maybe?) dystopian future where corporal punishment in the form of spanking has been declared the only acceptable punishment for crimes/misdeeds. The company uses remote operated spanking robots/androids which are dispatched to homes, businesses, or other locations and delivers the spankings the recipients have earned, at the request of their clients (parents, schools, or even the government). You play the role of an operator of one of these robots, and issue commands in the form of a rhythm game to ensure the spanking is delivered properly. 

I have lots of content and plans for the game which will expand the concept beyond what I've described so far. Plans that I wish to gradually divulge through posts here in between updates. At the moment there are 3 playable jobs with one character featured as the spankee, a girl named Chrys. I hope you all enjoy this first look into a project I'll be continuing in the future.

Instructions: For Windows users just extract the rar and run the DisciplineDelivered.exe, for Mac and Linux I'm unfortunately unable to test these releases, but you will be looking for an "nw" file of some sort in the folder to run the game. On the job screen click the "generate job" button to add 1 of 3 possible jobs to play through, they will always add in the same order. There are also only "hand" spanking jobs available currently. On the actual game screen, press the left, down, and right arrow keys to hit the left, middle, and right notes respectively. You can also press the spacebar to pause the game during the spanking portions. The other menus are placeholders for later features I'll be adding. If you have additional questions or issues to mention, please comment and I'll try to address them as soon as able.

Also, I'm sure this sudden change in focus from SQII to this new project with raise lots of questions. I stopped working on SQII due to my dissatisfaction with the engine and how repetitive all of the content and ideas I had felt to me. However I still haven't sworn off that project in entirely, and feel that one day I may return to add more content to it. Perhaps in between major updates to this new project I may feel in the mood to return to SQII again. I don't have a good track record with keeping promises, so take this as my brainstorming rather than anything definitive.

Glad to see that you're back with a new project! Just tested out the demo and have to say it's quite a unique design, hope to see you flesh it out in the future. On the other hand I quite enjoyed your previous spankquest works, while I understand the limitations with RPGMaker (having tried making a short game in it myself), I really enjoyed the RPG game design when it comes to this theme, and I look forward to any new updates or content you might have for the SQ series.

I'm sorry to hear that, I'm afraid I don't have access to a mac device to try it on, so can't test anything myself. If you can keep trying and inform me of anything you learn I would appreciate it.

I had trouble with the apple version i couldn’t start it at all. Gonna try again later but is there maybe a trick ?

Thank you for your comment and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it :) The job situation was a surprise for sure but I'm trying to use the opportunity for an improvement and not bring myself down over it.

Unless it has some features that really draw me in, it's not likely. Especially because the foundation for a large RPGMaker project in the form of SQ2 is already established in MV for me, and a new engine would just mean having to repeat a lot of work and time. But in the chance that I finish SQ2 and Discipline Delivered and want to start a new project after that, I'll definitely keep it in mind.
