How should we use Discord?

Hello, my Friends,

as you know, we have a Discord as a reward for Patrons. And to be totally honest: I have no idea what to do with that. I have the software installed, so technically you should be able to reach out to me at any time (when I am online). But I'm not sure how to use this effectively.

Believe it or not, but I am not a very social person. I even play MMORPGs alone. Reason for that is, that I feel genuinely confined by the responsibility of always being reachable. At the same time you are my Patron Family, so I want to be there for you.

So, at the same time, I want to do this and it gives me anxiety.  It's strange, but I would rather be on stage speaking to 1000 people than being in a chatroom with 3 people. But from my perspective that makes sense, because on stage I am in control, in a chatroom others make demands.

Btw. there is also voice chat in discord. not sure how much sense that makes for photo editing. And I wish our Patreon family was bigger so I could ninja an event and just announce a chat session whenever I feel like it. (I know that sounds horrible and selfish, but I don't want yet another thing where I need to be there on a fixed date every week. For example, imagine I would suggest a chat session every Sunday afternoon. It doesn't sound like much, but it effectively means that all my Sunday afternoons for the rest of the year are booked. As much as I love all of you, that's a bit much).

Well, now that you know what's going on in my brain, any suggestions?

Ps.: If you wonder why I am so open about my fears and feelings, it's because, in my mind, if everyone knows what's going on the worst is already out. Also it's a mechanism of shedding layers of responsibility. Because after the doors are open a) i am free to put my mind on other things and b) it's your turn to get active and step inside, plus c) you can't kick in the door anymore, because it's already open. ;)

I agree with Bob - 2 tutorials per week of such good quality with the files is such a unique and great value offering that I'm happy with. To commit to regular channels such as Discord might end up diluting things ?

I play ESO on both the PC and on Xbox. Love the game. There are quests that make me laugh, with others that make me cry. I have one (at least) of every class, except for the Night Blade. The only races I haven't played are Dark Elf nd Wood Elf. The story lines are very well-written, and I really like the way NPC's from an earlier quest line show up in different areas, especially when the programming is so skillful that they "remember" you. I also love the inclusivity. There are mixed race relationships, same-sex relationships, and no one acts as if there is anything strange in them.

Cool. I play ESO to. But on PS4 and not that often. I assume you are on PC

I sometimes use Discord to chat with on-line friends who play Elder Scrolls Online. That's my new favorite MMORPG. I used to play World of Warcraft, but news changes in the game left me unsatisfied, so I dropped it.

Hi Bob, that's actually a great idea. I didn't even think of that. Also thank you for your kind words. A webinar sounds fun. Are you doing that live?

Olivio Sarikas

Olivio, I very much appreciate your sharing on this, though as someone who hosts a webinar weekly with a group of six stock and options traders, I would far prefer that than being on stage in front of a 1000 people at any time :-) As for me, I believe you are sharing a great value already and expect nothing more. As to a schedule, it is asking a lot and likely too much of you. Just keeping the 2 tutorials a week coming with not only presenting but creating the content is no small thing. As another consideration though, before you made me aware of it, I was nearly unfamiliar with Patreon. Then in hesitation to involve myself with an unfamiliar thing, I paused for a period. Not because I would not support you but rather I was not confident as I am now in the Patreon process. By the way, it works fine. Maybe it would helpful to do a Youtube video on how to use Patreon to help some more Youtube watchers like I was to take the steps. I’ll think more on this but for right now . . .

Don't worry, we will come up with something eventually :)

I’m afraid I will not be any help here. I’ve never used Discord. I watched a couple of videos on the basics but I don’t know how we could make use of it. Sorry.
