Sounds good. It's always a good idea to keep the working files with all the layers so you can always go back and change things around. I love to work with files from the internet to. That's most of what i do at work too

You can execrate the scanlines in your design, similar as it is don't in many movies or video games, to make sure they work in different sizes. You can also try to make them higher contrast to they stand out more. :)

Anyway, I used your method of filtering to get the raster line efx, and here's the example: This is a modern high res logo of a show I worked on (audio operator) in the 1990s. You really can't see the raster/lines filter effect on the deviantart web page, but downloaded it comes through. It was the last effect I needed to get the old-school analog tv look right to my eyes!
