Variations on Gras Cavalry Carbines & Conversions from Ethiopia (Ad-free)
Added 2024-01-07 12:00:01 +0000 UTCWhile I was at InterOrdnance unpacking French rifles, I took the opportunity to pull out a couple different examples of Gras Cavalry Carbines to show the differences between original French production examples and Belgian commercial conversions. What we will see today are how to recognize:
- French Mle 1874 and Mle 1866-74 Gras cavalry carbines
- French Gras infantry rifles cut down to cavalry carbine configuration
- French Gras rifles cut down and put into cavalry carbine stocks
- French Gras carbines put into cut-down infantry rifle stocks
- Totally weird oddballs

2024-01-09 15:22:57 +0000 UTCDid the Belgians also make new new production stocks? I have an RTI Gras carbine that appears to have the brass hardware for the infantry rifle stock, but does not have the wood plug with the property stamp or the filled in barrel band spring channel.

The subtle variations in the Gras carbines would have been hard to get my head around without a side-by-side visual and your comments to help sort through them. Buyers of these carbines now have a very clear idea of what they are getting and/or asking for! Thanks again
