Hamas Claims to Make Sniper Rifles in Gaza - Are They Really? (Ad-free)

Hamas - or rather its specific military wing the Al Qassam Brigade - posted a video on Twitter / X yesterday purporting to show the manufacture of .50 caliber sniper rifles in Gaza. I was curious to have a look at it, as I've seen a lot of rifle factories and done some of this sort of work myself, so let's see what the video actually shows when we look carefully...

Thanks also to Armament Research Services for consultation on the AM-50.

It looks like the youngster in https://youtu.be/uBRwlrBOtkQ has better skills and technique. Hamas are horrific terrorists, but I suspect not savvy manufacturers of precision weapons.

The bit where he leaves the chuck key in the lathe gave me flashbacks to my apprenticeship!

As a machinist, even the take of machining the scope mount is wrong. To get a true and precise bore axis for the scope, you would have a top and bottom blank machined with no bore screw them together with a spacer in between, then drill and finally precision bore the axis. This still only works with that level of machining if you mark each upper and lower so they don’t get mixed up and are always assembled in correct order and direction, as you will see on every old engine journals. Certainly it is possible to make good products on conventional machines, but not using those techniques.

look close at the primers in the cartridges, they are all seated to deeply. This means those are the wrong primers.

No - that video is not mine to post.

Quick question -- will Patrons get the full version of the Royal Armouries interview?
