This Necromancer Just Wants to Plant Trees - Chapter 91

With their cover blown, Matthew quickly gained altitude and flew away without looking back.

Several arrows and spells were launched at him from behind, but they fell harmlessly to the ground due to the distance.

It's worth mentioning that Matthew noticed the half-elf archer hadn't fired a shot.

She was holding a heavily enchanted bow, and for her, this distance was certainly within reach.

"The Dragon Worshipers aren't all bad, it seems," Matthew thought as he remembered the arrow that had just narrowly missed him. It appeared that they had let him escape.

He made a mental note of the half-elf's face and name.

Raven quickly swooped back into the rainforest.

Matthew had gained a rough understanding of the layout of the Dragon Breeding Facility. Behind the tall wooden walls, there were five large petal-shaped structures guarding the central building.

That central building was a towering spire that seemed to reach the clouds.

There was no sign of life within the tower, but Matthew sensed a dangerous presence emanating from it.

There had to be something important locked up inside!

"Dragons?" Matthew thought, his excitement building as he recalled the dragon eggs carried by the Dragon Worshipers. "The Dragon Breeding Facility, as the name suggests, is probably where they hatch baby dragons. However, these dragons may not be true dragons but the same kind of Fire Drakes I've encountered before."

After a quick mental comparison, Matthew realized that the dragon eggs he had seen earlier were much smaller than those of real dragons.

A few seconds later, Matthew returned to the group and recounted what he had seen and heard:

"...Aside from the Necromancer and the half-elf archer, who are of the 'Dragon Fang' rank, there are also six Dragon Blood Warriors and a young Bearkin warrior who seem to serve as bodyguards for the two higher-ranked members. Inside, there are mostly Dragon Worshipers, all of them human, probably numbering over a hundred. These individuals seem healthier and stronger than typical cult members, but they shouldn't be too difficult to handle. Additionally, though I didn't see them, I believe there are many Fire Drakes or other low-tier dragon species being raised inside. They appear to be quite busy, possibly accelerating the hatching process of these dragons."

Li Weiqi inquired, "Did you see Blorken?"

Matthew shook his head.

Li Weiqi pondered, "We could launch a direct assault on the Dragon Breeding Facility to draw Blorken out, but before we see Blorken, it might be best for me and Reiga to stay hidden. It would lose its element of surprise if he sees us first. However, this would leave you with a limited fighting force to threaten the facility."

"In any case, Matthew, the decision is yours, and we're all willing to trust your judgment," the others added.

Only Reiga involuntarily rolled his eyes.

"Manpower isn't a problem; this is the rainforest's home ground, and the Spirit of the Rainforest will offer us the most assistance," Matthew decisively stated.

He closed his eyes and connected with the Black Banyan Dream Realm, conveying his intentions to Suya.

"You will have the full support of the entire rainforest," Suya's voice was gentle and almost divine.

Hearing her voice, Matthew couldn't help but itch inside, but his 'Calm Waters' technique kicked in just in time to soothe the itch.

The group waited on the edge of the rainforest for a while.

Before long, rustling sounds came from the forest behind them.

A group of flying squirrels descended from the trees, forming a brief cascade of flying squirrels.

"Don't worry; we flying squirrels are just the vanguard. We have some tough comrades behind us!" a voice that Matthew found somewhat familiar spoke.

"Afei?" Matthew asked, looking deeper into the rainforest.

Boom!

The ground trembled slightly.

The large banana leaves, nearly two meters high, were forcefully pulled apart, revealing a massive figure taller than Matthew.

Matthew focused his gaze.

It was none other than a flying squirrel standing upright, a whole size larger than the average human! His body was covered in uneven muscles, as though they had been injected with some sort of growth hormone.

The only scar, left by the negative energy, was the proof of his previous identity.

"Why did you become so fat?" Matthew asked in astonishment.

Afei shrugged, "Oh, Matthew, this is a long story. My strong determination to save your life touched the Spirit of Nature when it resurrected me. After asking me about my wishes in this new life as the next Spirit of the Rainforest, I honestly told it that it would be better if I were no longer a victim of being kicked around as the rainforest's black sheep. The Spirit of Nature agreed to fulfill my request."

"However, when I woke up, this is what I became, the Spirit of Nature, with a hefty appearance. Fortunately, I didn't turn into a girl; otherwise, I'd go crazy!"

Bobo asked curiously, "What's wrong with becoming a girl?"

Afei's expression turned cold instantly, "I have over three thousand brothers, and if I turned into a girl, the consequences would be unimaginable!"

"By the way, my status has changed too. They all call me Boss Fei now!"

Afei proudly snapped his fingers with his delicate claws.

The flying squirrels gathered around him.

Some climbed onto his back and patted his chest, some scratched his itchy spots, and others danced on his arms.

Matthew smiled, "It seems like you've really changed."

Afei proudly said, "Of course, you can still call me Afei, little Matthew."

During their conversation, a loud rumble echoed.

More and more animals emerged from the rainforest, with countless birds in the sky and ferocious beasts on the ground. Monkeys and pythons hung from trees, while crocodiles, hippos, and even a group of rhinoceroses from parts unknown were glaring at the outer side of the enclosure.

The rainforest creatures gathered outside the Dragon Breeding Facility in an impressive display of unity.

Afei wasn't bluffing; all these rainforest creatures followed his command.

Some of the wild beasts seemed barely able to contain their desire for bloodshed, but Afei didn't give the order, so they remained still.

"So, Matthew," Afei asked, "you want the rainforest creatures to launch a frontal assault, charging the Dragon Breeding Facility, while the tougher opponents are left to us."

Matthew decisively agreed, "That's right. It's as simple as that. Let's go, my comrades; your boss, Afei, will lead the charge!"

Afei waved his hand confidently and walked towards the enclosure.

The archers on the tower had obviously spotted this conspicuous target.

As Afei approached, they unleashed a barrage of arrows.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

A rain of arrows rained down upon him.

In an instant, Afei was transformed into a gigantic porcupine, with arrows sticking out of him.

Boom!

Suddenly, his body exploded, a flash of white light, and the arrows fell to the ground.

A small flying squirrel quickly dashed out of the explosion, saying, "I successfully tricked them into wasting their arrows!"

"Brothers, charge!"

The next moment, thousands of rainforest creatures launched a massive assault against the enclosure!

Inside the enclosure, the members of the Dragon Worshipers had also heard the commotion.

"I knew being soft-hearted would lead to no good. Lady Elasema, if that arrow you shot earlier hadn't missed intentionally, perhaps they'd be more cautious now!" The necromancer Jennings grumbled.

However, the half-elf archer paid him no attention at all.

She climbed back up the tower, pushed aside the human archers, took a prime spot, and began a frenzied onslaught against the oncoming rainforest creatures.

Inside the enclosure, the Dragon Worshipers received the signal to retreat and abandoned the dragon eggs they were holding, moving towards the five central "factory" buildings in an organized manner.

Jennings manipulated the position of the gate where the Bone Dragon was, and it charged into the group of animals, trampling and killing numerous rainforest beasts!

However, the battle had only just begun.

...

"Hint: Your comrade Afei (newly appointed Spirit of Nature) was pierced by arrows using 'Mighty Illusion,' and he is currently fleeing in a panic!"

...

With a quick glance at the information panel, Matthew chuckled and quickly organized the tasks for his team members.

After all was said and done, he prepared to sneak around to the side of the Dragon Breeding Facility.

Subversion was a divine technique, but it couldn't be used recklessly.

Jennings was one rank higher than Matthew, and in a direct confrontation, Matthew had slim odds of winning.

He needed to employ some tactical maneuvering.

But as Matthew had barely taken a few steps, he heard Bobo's voice from behind:

"Matthew, aren't you going to join us on the front line?"

Matthew explained, "I need to make a flanking attack. While you stay on the front line, don't rush into the Dragon Breeding Facility. Wait for my signal, just as I arranged."

Bobo questioned with a hint of doubt, "Why does a mage like you have to be so sneaky?"

Matthew replied confidently, "Have you ever seen a mage who can turn into a Wind God Winged Dragon?"

Bobo thought for a moment and found it reasonable, then protested, "Then why did you group me with the logistics guy? Do you look down on me?"

Matthew was momentarily confused but realized after a while, "Logistics guy? Are you talking about Reiga? No, no, you've got it all wrong. He's a proper fourth-rank warrior."

Bobo was surprised, "I always thought he was in charge of entertainment. I was going to ask where you found such a lively logistics person; he really knows how to liven up the atmosphere!"

"Hey, young lady, it's not a good habit to talk behind people's backs," Reiga grumbled as he joined them, displeased. "Matthew just entrusted you to me, and I was looking for you everywhere!"

Bobo looked at him skeptically.

Under Matthew's encouraging gaze, she finally relented, saying, "Alright, uncle, for now, we're temporary partners."

"Matthew plans to go for a sneak attack on his own. What are your thoughts?" Reiga calmly said.

"Let him sneak," Bobo remarked. "After all, he's a necromancer. They're supposed to do sneaky stuff!"

Bobo asked uninterestedly, "So, what do we do? Just sit here and wait? That's too boring. How about we also launch a sneak attack on a group of monsters? I see a bunch of Earthfire Dragons over there. They look slow and easy to deal with!"

Reiga considered for a moment. "What elemental types are Earthfire Dragons?"

Bobo replied cheerfully, "Fire? Earth? They should have some of each."

Reiga waved his hand generously, "Then let's go for them!"

Bobo's mood instantly soared, and she apologized, "I'm sorry, uncle. I always thought you were in logistics. Now, it seems I got it wrong."

Reiga laughed generously and took out a bottle emitting a chilling aura from his pocket, saying, "No worries. Wait for me; I'll apply some sword oil, and we'll set off."

Bobo's eyebrows turned into a figure-eight shape, and the antenna on her helmet stood upright, flashing with red light, looking extremely dangerous.

The surrounding environment became chaotic, filled with the sounds of the Dragon Worshipers and the wild beasts battling inside and outside the walls.

However, this chaos didn't bother Reiga as he applied sword oil, making his actions even more elegant and proper...

Slow.

In the eastern part of the Dragon Breeding Facility, near the direction of the desert, Matthew squeezed through a gap in the wall with ease. He wore an "Invisibility Ring," and his body was pressed tightly against the wall, ready to enter stealth mode at the slightest disturbance.

His journey so far had been smooth. The Dragon Worshipers had been drawn to the frenzied attack of the rainforest creatures from the west, leaving the rear vacant.

Matthew sneaked in unnoticed.

Ten minutes later, he reached the rear of one of the factory buildings. This location wasn't far from the western wall where the Dragon Worshipers had constructed a mixed structure of wooden fortifications and towers. In the Dragon Breeding Facility, the higher-ranking members of the Dragon Worshipers had gathered here.

The half-elf archer occupied the top of the tower. Her archery skills were remarkable, accurately targeting elite creatures among the densely packed rainforest animals, and taking them down with a single shot.

If it weren't for the overwhelming number of rainforest creatures, and Suya's determined command, she could probably single-handedly hold this checkpoint.

However, the core factor causing the impasse on the frontlines of the rainforest side was the necromancer.

Jennings was standing on the third floor of the fortification. He was surrounded by guards. In front of him lay the most intense battlefield, where numerous bodies had already fallen.

Under Jennings' command and incantations, the Bone Dragon rampaged, greatly slowing down the advance of the rainforest army. Additionally, the bodies were resurrected as puppets under Jennings' control. The wild animals that had charged into battle just moments ago were now puppets of the necromancer. This situation was terrifying for any intelligent creature.

After the initial wave of attacks, the most ferocious and clever predators, such as the snake-like creatures, became hesitant. They were wrecking the fortifications but were reluctant to venture further.

Inside the Dragon Breeding Facility's factory buildings, groups of Earthfire Dragons were being released and systematically sent to the front lines.

Seeing this, Matthew realized that if he didn't act soon, the defeat on the frontlines was inevitable.

He found a secluded spot, unlikely to be discovered, and began his own little actions.

Two minutes later, Jennings, on the third floor of the wooden fortification, suddenly sensed that something was amiss.

In that instant, a strong sense of foreboding struck his heart – it felt as if a powerful hand was carelessly intruding into the unbreakable bond between him and the Bone Dragon! No, it wasn't a hand; it was the influence of a third party's psychic power!

"What kind of magic is this?" Jennings exclaimed, glancing toward the direction of the Bone Dragon.

As expected, under the influence of the third party's psychic power, the Bone Dragon's movements were significantly hampered. It extended its claws, appearing hesitant to strike Jennings, which infuriated him.

"Someone is trying to steal control of my Bone Dragon," Jennings growled, his anger building. "Among these attacking enemies, there are not only advanced druids but also high-level necromancers?"

The good news for Jennings was that the intruder's psychic power didn't appear to be very strong.

He had successfully infiltrated the bond between Jennings and the Bone Dragon, but it seemed Jennings still retained control. He was confident he could regain control of his Bone Dragon!

The next moment, he closed his eyes, focused intensely, and tried to reclaim control.

But just at that moment, an incredibly terrifying screech echoed in his ears, and his eardrums felt as if they had been pierced through in an instant.

He opened his eyes in panic but found an eerie specter grinning not far away in the sky.

"Ability: Lament of Lifetaking!"

Fortunately, high-level necromancers possessed extraordinary resistance against psychic attacks.

He bit his tongue lightly, bringing him back to full awareness.

"What are you all doing?! Get rid of that specter!" Jennings shouted impatiently.

The Dragonblood Warriors, who also had high resistance, noticed and rushed to deal with the specter. However, it deftly veered away in the air, heading quickly in the opposite direction of Matthew's hiding place.

Startled by the specter's attack, Jennings' concentration significantly dropped. He felt panic set in as he sensed the Bone Dragon slowly moving away from him.

But he didn't have any spare energy to locate the enemy's position. He only tried to focus all his psychic power on pulling the Bone Dragon back.

This Bone Dragon had taken him a lifetime to accumulate, and he couldn't afford to lose it.

"No, I can't let someone steal it!"

With this powerful determination, Jennings' psychic power concentrated like never before, successfully pulling the Bone Dragon back slightly.

However, before he could wear a relieved smile, an inexplicable itch burst from his lungs, windpipe, and throat.

"Cough, cough, cough!"

He started coughing severely.

During this process, his concentration plummeted like a waterfall.

He couldn't hold onto the Bone Dragon anymore.

"No, no, no!"

Jennings coughed painfully, feeling as though a hand was choking his lungs, making it impossible to breathe. His eyeballs became extremely bloodshot, with blood vessels on the verge of bursting.

For a moment, he saw the innocent ones he had mercilessly slaughtered, kneeling before him with helpless eyes. However, this didn't deter Jennings from cruelly killing them and transforming them into undead.

"Don't disturb me, you pests. Death is a reward for you!" Jennings shook his head ferociously.

He refused to be overwhelmed by the memories that flooded his mind, desperately calling for his companions' help, "Irasema! Irasema! There's a mage nearby! Please, find him!"

But the half-elf archer didn't respond to his agonized screams.

Meanwhile, the Bone Assassin that had emerged from the Shadow Realm had engaged her in a fierce battle.

Irasema was a master archer with exceptional close combat skills. However, dealing with a sword dancer of the same level wasn't easy. At this moment, she couldn't help Jennings.

Three seconds later, she heard a heart-wrenching scream from her companion below:

"No! Give it back to me!"

Two seconds later, the Bone Dragon, which had been wandering aimlessly on the battlefield for quite some time, suddenly sprung into action. However, this time, it charged straight toward the wooden fortification.

...

"Notification: You have successfully 'subverted' the Bone Dragon. You have gained temporary control over the Bone Dragon (lasts 12 hours)!"

...

Comforted by his success, Matthew unhesitatingly took control of the Bone Dragon and set it on a reckless charge.

Rumbling!

The Bone Dragon collided head-on with the foundation of the fortification, causing it to collapse violently, and the structure on top became unstable. Simultaneously, many bones fell from the Bone Dragon's body.

On the fortification, Jennings, who had been helped down to the open space by the Dragonblood Warriors, saw this scene. He held his head in agony, shouting, "Be gentler! That's my Bone Dragon... Waaah!"

But at this moment, a voice drifted by Jennings' side:

"Thank you, but now it's mine. Your Bone Dragon is really handy!"

Upon hearing this, Jennings began coughing up blood uncontrollably, and his body convulsed violently.

Several tens of seconds later, he kicked his feet once, and in the embrace of the Dragonblood Warriors, he ceased to breathe.

...

"Notification: The necromancer Jennings died of a heart attack due to extreme anger. Given your successful 'subversion' of the Bone Dragon in front of its original owner and driving him to his death, you have opened a new domain, which is similar but not identical to the 'plunder' domain. You can make the following choices:

Enter the 'plunder' domain (no cost).

Open a new domain and name it (cost: one domain token)."
