Trivia Tuesday 014

In OBT’s world, some beta baby pokemon exist in some form or another! For example, Meowths like Dielle are born as Meowzis (which is merely a slang term for young Meowths rather than a distinguished species), and experience a gradual “evolution” similar to the Kangaskhan line as they grow older. The differences between newly born pokemon and their matured counterparts varies from species-to-species, with some being more drastic (such as Tangelas' vines being untangled at birth) to more minor (such as Ponytas gaining more full flame manes as they age).

And some explanations for other baby pokemon because I just think they're fun to think about: - Vulpix: As per pokedex entry, they're born with a single white tail that gains color and splits into more tails as time goes on. The exact cause for a tail splitting in a Vulpix is somewhat unknown, though some speculate that it's related to a burst of energy following a big event in their life. Some equate the number of tails to age, but it's not really a one-to-one comparison. Very inexperienced Vulpix may well still only have two or three tails into adulthood. - Growlithe: When young, Growlithe are born deaf with their ears folded down. As they grow their ears generally straighten back up, though sometimes remain floppy even into maturity. - Goldeen: Small Goldeen fry, sometimes called "Golppy", are so called for their large appetites. These fry look strikingly like Seaking in an effort to ward off potential predators that may mistake them for a much larger, more powerful fish. As they age, they lose their orange coloration in favor of the beautiful white scales Goldeen are known for. - Paras: Typically, Paras will rear their young in or around mushroom colonies in an effort to get mushrooms to sprout on their young. Mushroom-less Paras will often be found hiding out near these mushrooms until some finally take root. - Doduo: Doduo chicks are born with a surprising third head not spotted on their evolution. Nobody knows where the third head goes, though some speculate that it hibernates in Doduo's plumage until evolution. - Grimer: These are just little tiny Grimers, like, they're just born really small. And any baby pokemon I missed I think just went on to become actual baby pokemon later!
