Which option do you want to see River represented while they are off-screen at this time?

As you guys know, currently we have a scene in the main comic that features Andy and Waldren, and the side comic features Cooper and Andy.

Some of you have expressed a desire to see more River sooner. That's great! I would love to get involved in that while maintaining the current pace of the main comic. Options:

The side comic is written more loosely and has room for flexibility in where our focus is. If desired, I would make some edits and make room for River in Winter Blossoms so all three characters have equal-ish screen time (trying my best to not screw up canon of course). Please note that this will not take any scenes away from Coop and Andy that are already planned/written, as I would just do a little bit of plot blocking to slip Riv's time in there.

If folks are happy with the side story focusing solely on Coop and Andy's college days together, I can get a head start on product featuring Riv, such as a body pillow, wall scrolls, prints, and more~

I understand that currently, the side comic is only available to Patrons $3 and up. I wanted to make this poll available to all of you though, since you still contribute to the comics and you will read it anyway once it goes public.

Please select any and all that apply to you, and I will do my best to follow suit. Thank you guys, and see you soon! :3

Just wanted to say I'm completely with Jack Moore on this one. I'm also here only for the story - and not even the side story. I'm here for Andy and Cooper. I'm only supporting a higher tier because I like to give Jackaloo the support I think he should get. For now, I'm hanging out, but I have to admit that for some time now, I've had the feeling the story has been pushed in the background with everything else taking up to much of Jackaoo's time.

I'd love some river products i would buy them in a heartbeat

same, i am solely interested in the cute and awkward of cooper and andy. started out as a a good story of university student love story, but now is is diverging so much. when all you want is for coop and andy to finally get together and they do, we get thrown these other characters and seedy dealings to get in there way. ... but i there is a 4 chapter arc already planned so thats what im holding on to.

I completely understand and agree with you. It's true; I've had a bit of a struggle in finding my footing for a balance of content. When I had just the comic going, there was a demand for product, to start doing commissions, and add more Patreon exclusive fun things. I've tried to open up to producing as much as I can with the finite amount of time I have in my daily life. I sincerely would LOVE to work on the comic more. The reality is that I'm too scared to quit my day job. Tax is going up to 10.25% around here, and rent is climbing too. You guys do help me though with your support, and I REALLY appreciate it! Please never feel pressure or obligation to remain on Patreon. You've already done so much and I couldn't thank you more. I'm gonna keep attempting to pick up the pace, but please know that I support you and understand if you ever prefer to step away from Patreon and wait for public content 💜

I want to see the comic more often. My biggest issue is, was and remains how slow things post. I can't get invested. It's like being on a roller coaster that stops every ten feet. I'd rather cancel the side projects, the commissions and all the nonsense I'm not here for to have the comic. That's why I put my money out. Since all I can do is vote with my wallet, that is what I am doing. For now I continue to support. I don't know I will in the future.

I don’t mean to say that River is a caricature as-is. I just mean that is how such characters are often represented in fiction. As such, it’s nice to find works that not only show them in a realistic light, but also show more of them. The latter is what I’m hoping for, in regard to The Internship.

Diversity in itself shouldn't be used as a gimick, but I fully believe that River hasn't reached caricature, and as I know, Jackaloo is making efforts to promote diversity of age, orientation, gender, and background in this amazing comic. But further representation in comics is always a HUGE plus in my mind! Representation is just another way to add on a layer of reality, and I strongly agree with my Creative Writing professor that "The more fantastical the story, the more effort to make it believable should be made", and in that vein, making a diverse cast in gender, ethics, and values would hugely impact the grounding of the narrative. Also, totally with you on that for liking characters. Cooper is a complete dick in many regards, but his growth and dynamics are what I love him for. Plus learning more about 'The Fletch' will be muy intersante > : 3

All good points! I feel this especially with regard to River’s gender expression, since the story is woefully devoid of trans representation, as well as lesbian (which reminds me, what happened to that friend of Chelsea’s?). I even think it would be helpful to eventually know how Fletcher ended up being the way he is. I really, strongly dislike him, but one isn’t meant to like every character in a story, at least not in the sense that they agree with their ideology and/or way of life. That doesn’t mean that I don’t want to know more about him or why he ended up this huge jerkass guy. Overall, I just feel that the story, the narrative, is more important than what a majority of the voter-base wants. I think a creator should feel free to flesh out their work and explore what they want, making it a strong work of fiction, even in the realm of graphic novels. I’d like to see The Internship hold up in the way that Associated Student Bodies did for so long. That’s why I strongly advocate for River (plus, I would like to feel like my ‘demographic’ is being represented in something as more than a throwaway caricature).

I'm with you on this! On one hand, since many of the patreons and fans vote for more Andy and Cooper content and that was what was originally planned, focusing particularly on their narrative during grad school is going to guarantee cohesion. However, in Jackaloo suggesting that there is potential in that River can have their story explored fluidly without causing the streams to cross, I am all for that. If an Author *wants* to explore a character, I want to see that exploration, since that desire to write about a certain subject tends to correlate to fluid and passionate writing. River is almost guaranteed to have more light shed on their background during Volume 3, so to have simultaneous backstory explored can enrich the reader's experience of getting to know River. I feel like that is a strength of this comic that has been explored; all characters have a strong backstory, and aren't just a throw away. I find myself wanting to understand how and who Andy is outside of a dynamic with Emery or Cooper. But even more so; I feel that introducing more River content allows for showing off a really cool character who's exploring gender expression and the life of a sex industry worker. They are a fascinating character, and if readers can learn more about River's journey to how they wound up meeting Fletcher, that'll only help strengthen the cast as a whole, not take away from the history and growth of Cooper and Andy (who have had a lot of exploration already!) If anything, understanding River's motives and origins will emphasize the individuality of Andy and Cooper as unique characters!

Currently, River interests me a lot more than anyone else. I think the story needs an infusion of new characters, since it’s been going for some time now. Whenever a new season of a television show begins, for example, there is almost always at least one new character deployed, and that means that said character will get screen time to flesh out their backstory and character development. I don’t think River has had much of that at all, so it’s beginning to feel wonky to me. And, after all, Vol 2 was originally meant to be Silver Shot, so River was intended to have an involved backstory, no? I think that tossing in a couple extra scenes in Winter Blossoms, to show that Andy and/or Cooper crossed paths with River a few years back, without even realizing it, would not only cover more ground, but it would also set things up to be even more interesting in the future. Just my take, as a writer and purveyor of literature.

I'm not invested in that character, I honestly see her as a frustration point somewhere down the line. The reason this comic is so good is because it can be frustrating at points, so I'm not lost on it...but she's a distraction and I personally won't vote for more of her...unless she's a good tucker and not a she but a he...mtc

Scott.Wayne

I'm a simple man, I see the option for more River, I click.

Sugar Sammy

I'd love a river mouse pad

Id like to see more of River

I love that you allow us to have a say in polls like this. I think it really adds to the experience of the Patreon.

Jackomac43

Personally, I think WB should be left alone—everything that happened in 2 was climax built from years of tension, and the side comic will help reveal more of that—I think throwing River in there would cause the readers to lose focus on that dynamic.

GreenDreamer

Just my take, but I feel like the side story would feel more cohesive if it just focused on Andy and Coop.
