I agree it does not justify what he does. But I like it that we understand his motivation better, and with it not being okay and us discussing this, it's definitely a more interesting side to it. I'm VERY happy with the character development in these comics. Conflicting characters in difficult, relevant phases combined with great storytelling - that's great!

Everyone has multiple sides to who they are, and they often show those different sides in different situations. No one is two-dimensional, and what makes this writing so good is that it's super realistic in that way (most people just aren't used to that kind of realism in fiction). In regard to the events, though, Emery obviously trusts Kate enough to allow himself to be this vulnerable in front of her. And I understand his feelings, completely. Problem is, I'll never think that it justifies his methods. Ever. And I'm beginning to wonder if this Kate put him up to it. If so, I'm going to find her to be a very bad influence. *crosses arms*

His demeanor may be different but it's two sides of the same coin of desperation. He doesn't deserve to be lonely, but he's extremely lucky Andy didn't report him when they first met. Something tells me "bribe someone for a shot at an internship for sexual favors" wasn't what she meant. I'm definitely not saying I dislike him, but that's totally what he did at the start.

Kate is great. Really difficult situation for her, talking like this with her boss, but they do seem to have a great, trusting relationship. As for the connection between the story lines across the comics, I always felt that the story line with Emory and Andy is pretty flat when compared with the Cooper's and Andy's story. Maybe there's more to it, and I'm intrigued to find out!

I knew this comic would make me love emery again, I feel bad for him now especially with what's going on in volume 2 right now, but there's probably more to it on emery's side. We shall see, btw love Kate ❤️
