I think my vision of the coyote project has been somewhat vague.
I created this video to shed some light on the matter.
Consider this a " teaser trailer", of sorts.
As I delve deep into my own history and story, there is much untold. But now, for the first time, I am delving into my heritage. Growing up in New Mexico, I was viewed by many as a half-breed.
It is an untold tale that makes me the artist I am today. It will be a reclamation of who I am. The girl child, the last child, the half breed. In a culture so rich and diverse. Finding my place. Claiming it and exalting it. They call me "coyote", My heritage is rich and unique.
As far as the creation of my work, this project is diverse in media. It will entail paintings, sculpture, costume design, and video media to tell the story. It is a more open telling of my experience, greater than any I've told as a self portrait artist. This is more than an auto-biographical multi-media telling of events of my life. I intend to challenge my views of perception and reality, while challenging the viewer as the work is seen.
The intention being that the artist/creator had been in charge of the narrative all along. The subject, "coyote", evolving through time as one who, like the trickster, has control to blur the lines between artist and art.
