Wrapping up June

What an incredible month it's been! When the month began, I hadn't planned on it being so focused on my physical self. But as I began to dream bigger going into a coyote themed project, it became very clear that my first step was sculpting. Not in a traditional sense, though. It wouldn't be sculpting clay or wood or even stone. It would be my own body!

It doesn't seem to me that this is an unusual undertaking. Especially given that I am primarily a self-portrait artist. I use my own image because the moments, ideas, and feelings I wish to express in my art are deeply personal. It would seem disingenuous to do anything less.

It is very much the story of my own personal journey that I wish to express with undertaking an entire series based on a theme of coyote.

From being a little girl who was called "coyote", made to feel on the outside; to taking that narrative and recreating it as a theme of empowerment. This is the journey of self worth, independence, and creation.

Thank you for being here to share it with me.

This little video is a simple reference point of self reflection and my perspective looking outward. It may appear simply as me just lounging in a pool. But June has brought this change of manipulating the clay and color of my body for a greater vision. Thus, making lounging in the sun a part of my job.
