[Progress Report]: 25th of April

Hey everyone,

It's been so long since I've worked on nothing but new content that... well...

I've forgotten how to fill out the progress reports without spoilers. Let's see...

Progress on Version 0.80 is going well. Detective Keegan is officially in the game, along with advances along the main story. The speaking of the main story, that's been my focus for the past few weeks of development. There are a lot of things I want to do with each of the heroine's story that requires the main plot to progress, so I've just been trucking along with that.

Above, you'll see Missus Powell with her new gym attire. I'm liking the darker colors on her. Also, that is a sports bra, which is why she doesn't seem as "chesty" as usual. Expect to spend some one-on-one time with her as she prepares you for your little bout with Riley.

Oh! I know a topic I want to touch on.

Solace, will you add mini-games in Superheroes Suck? What about combat?

As far as mini-games, I don't think I'll be including any in Superheroes Suck. Simon-Says, Rhythm games, Pong games, etc. I don't use a money system in game, and I think that they're often included to either pad out time farming for a cash equivalent or to just pad out time in general. I think we can all agree that Superheroes Suck doesn't need to pad for more time. The story is moving slow enough as is! Adding mini-games can also ruin save-game compatibility, requires an enormous amount of development time for fine-tuning and balance, and so on. Maybe in the far future when Superheroes Suck nears 100% completion, but for now, I am not planning on adding any mini-games to the project.

But what about combat?

I do want to do something light with the combat. The first confrontation with Lovestruck, while a decent spectacle, wasn't as engaging as I wanted it to be. In the future, I'm thinking about adding a simple system where you need to click on certain parts of the image to progress an action sequence. Is a punch required? Click on the head. Something along those lines. It seems less intrusive than adding a mini-game, less development intensive than adding an RPG system in, and less frustrating than adding "pass or die" choices for combat. These would be large zones, so you won't need to be very precise, for those of you on mobile and/or who play Superheroes Suck at two in the morning.

What do you guys think? Good idea? Bad? Let me know.

Thank you for all of your support,

~Solace

Comments

Thank you for the support! The only problem I've had with that is that I'm trying to hide the protagonist's face and, well, that really brings attention to it! Maybe I can come up with some creative camera angles to get it down, though. I'll give it more thought once I'm back to pumping out H-scenes.

Excellent decision regarding mini-games. Nothing spoils a good AVN more than shoehorning in some silly games. I've dropped more than one patreon for doing that. Nice start by the way. Really like the variety in girls. Would like to see the MC return the love a bit when they all go down on him. They deserve a little tongue love too. ;-)

I don't remember ever seeing "action" gameplay done right in a Ren'Py game (if someone has counterexamples to that statement, I'll gladly look at them). Most of the time, the non-VN non-RPG parts feel like they have been a nightmare for the developer to code for a very lukewarm result in the end. Playing with the more traditional (for a VN) ways to energize a fight scene (music, cut-ins, visual effects...) might work better.

If you want it to have some hilarity, making them comic book punch effects could be fun haha (In all seriousness, the idea has merit as long as the area which to click has some type of suggestion for it, rather than being a game of 'guess where to click'. Other than that, for it to be interactive all I can think of is a menu of choices 'Punch' 'Evade' 'Kick' etc, but that may detract from being immersive in the battle rather than immersive. So far you have done an amazing job on this game and I have no doubt I will find your choice great.) Thanks for all the amazing work thus far!

Sounds good as always. Keep trucking along. We believe in you
