this episode upset me so much as a teen i refused to watch the rest for years lmao

Hikka

"Careful what you do. Cause God is watching your every move" those lyrics are so chilling. I am so happy you guys decided to watch the dub. I was actually so shocked the first time I watched this show, I couldn't bring myself to watch the rest for a month or two. Needed time to grieve lol

Stella

I actually was 'first time watching' this with y'all until 3 weeks ago. I skipped ahead some episodes, got here and was totally shocked! I didn't expect that either! I thought we'd have L the whole show! I only watched the episode after this and then decided I'd wait so y'all could catch up because I'm not ready for a world without L lol.

Bri

You might want to rewatch that episode. The symbolism of Light's domination over L is powerfully displayed throughout.

Selph

This episode is definitely one of my favourites because of how well-written and beautiful it is, but at the same time I hate rewatching it because of L's death 😭 also laughed out loud at your reactions to the foot scene 😂 the absolute disbelief when L's heart stopped too

Xiao

Fine feathered friends and foes 🫡

Steven Warner

well actually oak mentioned it in the discussion, so he was thinking it

peachy af

Oh my god i hope they watch L's Funeral, its such a fantastic clip.

peachy af

I appreciate how much Answer imitates Light's VA's vocal inflection lmfao its all the drama i could ever want

peachy af

me too sigh sigh

peachy af

i was hoping theyd understand the biblical reference but twas to no a vail

You should check out L's funeral scene from one of the movies, relight I believe. It's uploaded on YouTube and the voice acting is crazy. Only a few minutes long and it'll make you hate Light even more lol.

Seth

this is more part 2 than part 1 if i’m not mistaken 🤔 w the new ova and all

OOOOOHHHH HERE IT IS FELLAS!! CANT WAIT TO GET HOME AND WATCH THIS!!

Crispin

Goodbye Lawliet :(

Rena Unnie

The scene where L dries Light’s feet was a reference to Jesus washing Judas's feet. L already knew that Light was Kira without being able to prove it, and that Light would betray him, that he was going to kill him, and he accepted his fate :( RIP L

Magda Ch

light and L are very interesting characters. two sides of the same coin. only they can truly understand each other. if light hadn’t been the one to pick up the notebook, they could’ve been real friends. and rem dying for misa gets me every time… she really loved her

wren

Yes, there is a parallel between Judas and Light.

Rhiannon

exactly IM not religious but I know the story.. :) it was sad they thought its just some weird gay scene.. :D :D

Richard Ramirez

it also represents that L knew light was going to betray him, just like judas did to jesus. and yet he washed his feet anyways

wren

I’ve rewatched death note so many times and this specific episode gets me every single time. Light’s expression when he had L in his arms as he was dying infuriates me so much. I truly believe that L knew everything the whole time but he couldn’t prove it and there was just so much he didn’t know.

summer !!

The scene with L drying off Light's feet with a towel is a possible biblical reference to Jesus washing the feet of his disciples during the Last Supper according to John 13. With Light being Jesus/God and L being his "disciple"/fellow detective, but it might be inverted. I think L gives a final jab to Light who thinks he's Jesus or as he calls himself "God of the New World" but it's actually L who represents Jesus the best as being humble enough to wash/dry off Light's feet, showing true humility.

Rhiannon

The moment on the roof was like L hearing the bells at his funeral ("For whom the bell tolls"). He could feel his time was almost up. The scene with the feet washing/drying seemed to me was a reference to Jesus, though he also flat out calls Light out for seeing himself as a god "you'll get used to it". I really loved all the symbolism in this episode!

Isaac Spencer

L wiping Light’s feet was symbolism

Selena G

The entire tone of this episode is just different from all the other episodes and it's really foreboding for what's to come with the ending there.

Marc Post

As painful as this episode was, this reaction was so fun to watch!! My favourite reaction till now!! P.S. Yes I also left watching death note after this episode, just like all others. Came back to it after 2 years just to complete the series somehow.

Shubham

The rain and feet scene are anime original and were not in the manga, but while it may seems weird to you it's kinda a metaphor for how Jesus cleaned Judas's feet right before Judas betrayed Jesus.

MokoYami

One thing I'll say is the anime really changes the vibe surrounding L's death. It gives off a much more defeatist or accepting attitude, like L knows he's lost and is just waiting for it. In the manga it was mostly business as usual, he had no reason to suspect Rem would do Lights bidding, if anything finding the death note gave him a second wind in terms of things to think about and check. Even when he's dying and Light lords over him he explicitly says in the manga "I was right, I knew it" or something to that effect which was cut from the anime.

Kollie123

Have to wait till I get home to watch this, but already knowing whats gunna happen, I just have to say. When this was comong out still, This was the end of vol 6 of the manga. And when I got done reading. I just put the book away on ths shelf. And did not touch Death Note for YEARS lol. I was so so upset. I was just done. I don't know how many years passed before I finally picked up the last 6 volumes and just read them in one sitting to see how it ended. It was such a shock to me back then as a teen, lol. Can't wait to get home to watch the reaction tho.
