Does not one single viewer understand they are watching their own version of the show along with these guys? Everyone at any time can and SHOULD watch it in whatever language they want! LMAO I've been watching mine in dub the entire time and getting the entire experience of the watch along, NOT ONE SINGLE INSTANCE OF CONFUSION, and only like 3 times they quoted what they read in the subtitles and it didn't line up to what I heard perfectly. However I have an IQ over 7 so I can understand there was a translation error and know what they meant, (and I've seen it in sub and know what was said so there's that too). You can just watch these episodes in Sub, just like the rest of the show, even though they are watching it in dub. You don't have to switch with them LMAO!!!!!!! this concept baffles me when people don't understand that it makes absolutely NO difference if the creator isn't showing their screen and or sharing their audio. watch your version and stop crying baby boo. weebs be sobbing when they have to listen to the english language. And don't even realize they didn't need to. lolololol

Did you guys see that the Eldians that they turned into pure dumb titans were the ones we saw Eren and others fight? That one santa claus titan that ate Eren, the one 3 meter class titan at the end almost killed Sasha when they were doing the elevator mission to get gas and so on? That's some cool details.

Honestly that wasn't a bad dub. I'd watch that again and just skip when the main 3 come on. I hate their dubs, but honestly all the rest of it about Marley, Grisha's Va and all the others were really good. And it was definitely easier to absorb. Also, did anyone else, upon first watch. Automatically think of the Na*is the moment they saw the arm bands? I feel like I've only seen maybe one, or two reacorts at most make that connection right away. Or at least say it out loud. I know I did, the moment I saw it in the outro of the last episode. I was like ohhhhhh that's where this is going... ok Re: rewatching. Please, someday.. go back and re watch AoT on your own time. this show had INCREDIBLE rewatchability. Once you have all the answers. You can go back and spot all the things you missed the first time. All the things that flew over your head because you just didn't know to watch for them. Heck I was learning new things even just a a watch or two ago. And I can't even count how many times I've seen this show (especially season 1 when that's all we had for 4 years lol).

There are other Eldians trapped in Marley, left behind, but they aren’t the majority of Eldians. They are sent as titans to the island, to 1. Attack the island and 2. As punishment

Yeah, like I remember seeing a couple rude comments about how most of our bad medicine crew thought that the beast titan was grisha well into season 3 part 1, even though we saw through memories that grisha died to Eren and they got super upset at them, like damn. The issue with mason quinn forgetting Annie and hannes is because in season 1 there are so many characters to keep up with while in season 4 you have established the characters you know so any new characters added on top won’t be that severe. I also watch other of your reactions on youtube, but only signed up for the watchalongs of AOT. I fell in love with the series incl. the japanese voice acting. Finding you suddenly switch to dub was quite a disappointment for me and it is so for two major reasons: 1. The experience i have (watching sub) and you have (watching dub) is not exactly the same anymore. The magic of having a truly shared experience is lost. 2. The fact you switch to dub at this point implies that you have never grown to love the voices and voice acting of Eren, Armin, Mikasa, Levi, Hange & Co. as much as i do, which is a disappointment in itself. If you continue with dub i will reconsider my subscription as this is not what i signed up for. One thing that people don’t seem to pick up on is that Dina Fritz was from the royal family who escaped to the walls after the great titan war 80 years ago. She was born from one of the few royal family members to stay in Marley. The reiss family is actually the Fritz family but after escaping to the walls changed their name to reiss so that anyone from Marley who eventually came to take the founding titan (Reiner, bertholdt, Annie) would be unable to find them as they no longer are called Fritz. This means that historia is really part of the Fritz family and related to Dina distantly. This also means that historia is distantly related to zeke Yaeger

I've watched it in both sub and dub and while both are great, I prefer dub. I don't have a sub or dub only preference since it depends on the anime. ⚠️SPOILER WARNING FOR EP 21⚠️ 13 years for intelligent titans like Eren. Pure titans can live on forever in theory. Like how Ymir was a titan for 60 years. Ymir as in our Ymir and not the thousand-year-old Ymir. So that means Eren has around 6-7 years left. Because he got his powers from his dad 5 years ago

The Marlian's didn't send the Eldians to the island. It was around 80 years ago (from Grisha's childhood) that the Eldian king of that time fled the mainland and took some of his people to the island because he was against war. So he made the walls using titans and also told the outside world to leave him and his people alone or otherwise he will unleash the titans in the walls. Also at first there were no pure titans roaming outside the walls. Because pure titans didn't exist naturally. It was later that Marley decided to turn Eldian prisoner into pure titans and send them to the island

I hope you find this comment. There are some things that you should keep in. Ymir obtained power of the Titan from the devil. She split her powers to Nine Titans(Colossal, Armoured, Female etc). Her bloodline became the Eldians. Eldians can be turned into titan pure or intelligent both. Who ever has the founding's power can control all titans, pure or the rest 8 intelligent. And also Eldians. We know that the King of the Walls couldn't control the mind of Ackerman Clan because they aren't Eldians. Ymir and later her lineage (Royal Family) ruled over Marley and other nations and cleansed all other races. But 80 years ago (from Grisha's childhood) the Marleyan's somehow took the powers of 7 titans out of the 9. The King of Eldia fled to the island of Paradise with the founding titan. The king there created the walls using millions titans and said that if anyone in future comes to the Island and disturbed the peace the King will unleash the millions of titans trapped in the walls. But some Eldians still remained on the mainland which Marley had captured now. And the Eldians were persecuted for the sins of their ancestors. Marley recruits Eldian kids to be warriors who can inherit the powers of the 7 titans they have. Because only Eldians can turn into titans. SO that means Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie are Eldians working for Marley.

I've never seen this episode in English and I'm honestly impressed with the voice acting, the English voice acting for this show was iffy, sometimes corny which is why people prefer Japanese. Levi, Hange, Erwin, Reiner and Grisha were the only English voices that actually delivered an above average to outstanding performances but this episode in English went just as hard in Japanese.

I said it on the last reaction, but I'll say it again here too - re-watching this episode in sub might be helpful to solidify the information/cover anything missed due to differences in the dialogue translations. I personally feel it would be better experience-wise to, going forward, continue with sub for the first watch and then re-watch in the dub as required - but whatever works best for you! I personally have a hard time taking in information by ear, and take in way more by reading, so subs work better for me for info dumps haha. I feel like I might be in the minority in that respect?

For what it's worth, the whole next season will be sprinkled with multiple episodes consistently having large info dumps or extremely complex concepts, so I'd be very much in favor of you guys continuing the rest of the series in English, but I respect your choice if you decide to stick to the Japanese.

Except it really isn't confusing. It's clear that they need an extra boost to grasp some basic concepts that have been reiterated multiple times, like the fact that there are only a handful of intelligent titans while all the others are pure titans. They stated multiple times that Levi should inject himself with the titan serum so that he can power himself up even more. It's clear that they aren't grasping certain things, and I personally blame the sub for this lack of understanding. Sub elitists will whine that the sub is more impactful or emotional than the dub, which is bullshit, but they forget that the most important thing is the story itself. If they aren't able to grok it as well simply because they aren't anime veterans, then it's incredibly selfish and stupid to insist on diminishing their enjoyment of the story by screeching about how they *need* to watch the subbed version.

I commented this on youtube but i'll also post it here too. In the ending when you guys are giving your commentary you are a bit over complicating your thinking. This isn't spoilers cause it was said in this episode, 100 years ago from the very start of the show (supposedly) King Fritz left the land of what is now the nation of Marley with a lot of his followers because he was like I'm done fighting just leave me and my people alone, anyone who comes to the Island of Paradis (this is where the walls are) to try and harm us I will unleash the millions of Titians that make up the walls to fight. SO because of this threat everyone, in this case the Marleyans were like okay you chill on the island we won't bother you. The Island of Paradias has never had a titan attack like the titan's breeching the walls. Titans run free because all the titan's are just Eldians that Marleyan's deem not good, whether or not they commit an actual crime, but for Marleyan's being an Eldian is crime enough. That is why they say "you will be brought to your paradise", cause the Island of Paradis is where the Eldians live, whether as pure titans or in the walls. King Fritz didn't take all the Eldians, thats why in the flash back of Eren's dad Grisha, was in an interment camp and had to wear an arm band. They are treated as second class citizens at best and less than human at the worst. Eldians also called Subjects of Ymir have the ability to turn into pure titans, that are practically mindless. Only Eldians have this ability because of their ancestor that is mentioned in this episode Ymir, who was the founding titan. It's explained, not so much in clear dialog but in the context that is shown and by the dialog of how Eren got his powers and when Historia is almost going to change into a pure titan to eat Eren that the only way a pure titan can become a person again is if they eat a titan shifter. A titan shifter is explained in this episode as someone who holds the power of the titans. So power of the titans = being able to shift into a titan, like Eren. In this episode it is revealed that there are 9 titans. We have seen 8 titans so far, the Founding titan who was Historia's sister that Grisha Eren's dad ate. Eren's titan, that Eren got from his father cause he ate him after being turned into a pure titan. Eren has two titans now. We have seen the Colossal titan, the armored titan, the female titan, the Jaw titan who was Ymir, the Beast titan and the titan that walks on all fours. Only the Island of Paradis had the founding titan until Grisha came to the walls, before Grisha came into the walls Marley had 8 of the 9 titans. Now they only have 6 cause Armin ate Bertholdt. This isn't a spolier cause it's very much subtext in every episode we see the titan shifters, keep in mind that every titan has different abilities, that will be important going forward.

I was sceptical at first but now I've seen your reaction I think it was a good idea that you guys watched this episode in dub. I think if it was sub you would have been too focused on reading the words to take everything in and likely would have still been confused which would have made for an unsatisfying watch. Maybe in your own time you can watch the sub episode because the voice actor for Grisha is fantastic. You should be fine on sub for the next two episodes, though (season 4 of course is a much watch on sub, however there's a bit of an info dump on the first episode that you should be mindful of). If u guys go back to early season 1, around the battle of Trost (iirc), u will see a lot of the restorationists that were turned into titans this episode. Three of the most recognizable ones: Dina, the one who ate Eren's mom; Santa titan, the one who ate Eren in episode 5, you also saw him in his human form with that bread; and 'stare' titan (I don't know the name of it), the one who ate the piece of shit, also the one who ate the girl in Eren's squad back in episode 5. That's how detailed the author and animators went, since the seasons were years apart but they still connect.

Dub isn’t bad but there’s NO SHOT you can say dub hits harder than sub. It’s like asking people to watch Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and TWD in Spanish dub. Idk if the oak missed it, but every Eldian who gets injected with Titan spinal fluid is transformed permanently into a Titan. I really really love the ending of this episode, especially what the officer, that "piece of shit" 🤭 is talking about. He says Eldians are monsters while he himself brutally murdered a little girl. I hope you watch the rest of AOT in Sub bc even though Dub is easier to listen to, the Voice acting in Sub is better, and there are very powerful/iconic scenes in the future that will hit harder in Sub. So definitely check out the rest of AOT in Sub but if you ever think you missed something, you can always rewatch it in Dub. Even if you watch it in Dub you will probably still have to rewatch those episodes anyways. I’m glad you guys liked these iconic episodes.

So, in recap & to go off of Daves comment. There are 9 Titan Shifters or well were. We know of a few. Eren's 1st Titan (the name shall be disclosed eventually), Eren's 2nd Titan the Founder/Coordinate, 3rd Armin who is now the Colossal Titan, 4th Reiner (Brock Lesner) the Armored Titan, 5th Annie the Female Titan, 6th Zeke the Beast Titan, 7th Ymir whos titan name has not been revealed yet (the gremlin looking one that was Historia's friend) and the 8th Titan the Quadraped titan whos name shall be revealed later (the horse looking one with the supplies on its back) and there is a 9th who will be revealed eventually. These are the 9 Titans that split off from the original Ymir thousands of years ago.
