2024-07-09 03:01:59 +0000 UTCI love this movie, and love your reaction! It hits all the right notes with the drama, comedy, and romance. The dialogue in this is so sharp, and the whole cast delivered it quick-wittedly and poignantly. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence had amazing chemistry.

2024-07-07 23:47:41 +0000 UTCI always thought that Pat asking the receptionist in the therapist’s office “is that song really playing?” as sort of like “are you kidding?” but in reality, he’s genuinely asking her that because he hears it when he’s experiencing high stress/delusions. He wants to know if it’s really happening or if he’s having an episode!

2024-07-07 17:51:37 +0000 UTCI'm less-kind to this film than most people are, because I think it's focus is in the wrong direction in the back half. Specifically with how important medication and therapy were to Pat's improvement. The intro to the film deliberately showed that Pat wasn't taking his medication, and wasn't taking his therapy seriously, and so he continued to show the same symptoms and have the same difficulties as before despite his claim to be 'better'. After the big blowup at his house the film showed that he did finally start taking his pills and taking his therapy seriously...and then it wasn't mentioned again. The only thing we see through the rest of the film is his dance project and his family relationships, and that's when we see his mental health improve. And by not SHOWING his medication and therapy in this portion of the film it seems to be saying that he just needed a new woman his life, just needed to move on, and it would all get better. And that's not how mental health works. Medication definitely isn't a cure-all, and it won't work if there isn't simultaneously emotional support and healthy relationships in a person's life, but mental health issues do not go away by getting a New Attitude. You can't Positive Outlook your way out of depression. I 100% do not think the film is taking an anti-medication stance. They do show him starting his medication. But by not focusing on that along with his family, the message kinda gets lost. And with how big and popular this film was I sour on it that it couldn't get it 100% right.
