Having watched both the sub and dub. I prefer the sub for the emotion and intensity. However, with the dub, it's easier to understand if you're a native English speaker. But since they've already started the sub this far, it'll be hard to transition to the dub. I think the sub is superb due to the talented director and voice actors they have. The dub cast is also talented, but I don't know about their director. I think the director's ability to get the voice actors to say the lines with the right intensity and emotion plays a big part.

Guys, have you noticed that the dialogue is quite good? Did you notice how people are talking in this show in a realistic and grown up way? The reason AOT is appreciated isn’t just because of the action or the twists but because the author really had things to say. So in this slower episodes, I wouldn’t consider them slower even, but the weight of the words spoken is a big part of the story and should be really taken into consideration because later the story will become more complex and it’s better to pay attention to the themes presented here.

Eric

Dubbed would definitely take away from the AoT experience - the japanese cast are definitely iconic. I think the problem with the dubbed is that they try to match the voice intensity of the acting, but since it's a forced imitation, it sounds super unnatural and cringe-y

bookwormxx

I think its fine if they want to do it. Dub has definitely gotten a lot better over the years and there are some shows that i prefer the dub but its not all because of eternal vendetta against dub. AOT has a great dub with some exceptions and when i say exceptions I mean armin dub VA is unbearable sometimes. Not a fan of how they changed what titans scream sound like either. There are some really good dub VAs as well like erwin but still can't fully recommend because of those things and the fact that they will miss the incredible VA from eren, grisha and erwin later on if they dont watch sub.

You guys have to realize that Dubs used to really suck- back when anime distribution in America wasn't very good, it was often fan groups themselves dubbing the content and it was often laughably bad. That has changed in the last 15-20 years dramatically, anime in America is much bigger and the studios are doing the dubs now. For series like AoT that are relatively modern, the dubs are absolutely good and you shouldn't be afraid of dubs in general. There's nothing wrong with the original Japanese w/ subtitles either but don't let oldhead anime fans with an eternal vendetta against dubs taint your view of something that is actually quite good now.

Caleb Hill

As do I, like I said I enjoy the sub more too, but just struggle when I'm synching two videos and have to watch them on a separate screen than the subtitles, and they keep their copy of the subtitles blurred. Maybe if they unblurred the bottom 10% of the screen to uncover subtitles I might be able to do sub so when I look back and forth I'm not missing anything. But in multi screen reaction format I usually always pick dub.

Jonah Bertorelli

Yeah I love the dub of this show. I very much prefer the sub, but every now and then, I check the dub and it surprises me how much great effort and talent is in the dub

Crewe

and obviously I've seen the show so I'd know everything I missed a nutshell. But I enjoy this shows Dubbed voice acting so it's just easier to do the reaction with the dub.

Jonah Bertorelli

I could. but it would be SUPER tough. I'd have to skip back often and having two videos to sync makes that a pain. If I can look away and not lose track of what's just happened I can tune in and out and still catch it all. I have to multi-task. Singular tasks are somehow far harder for me to focus on. And especially on a repeat watch through when I've already seen something before I can far more easily tune in and out and still catch everything during the tune out parts haha.

Jonah Bertorelli

Interesting I've been diagnosed too but I can follow along somewhat, what do you make of that? Am I an oddity lol

glass

I can confirm there's at least 90%+ intensity in the dubbed version. I have ADHD so I can't watch the show, while staying in time with your reaction, and stair at subtitles the whole time, so I'm watching the dubbed along with you and love it. Dubbed is incredible too!

Jonah Bertorelli

Sweet

Worked like a charm. Thanks!

Are you not able to see the title on top when you click? If you do see it, you can click that and it should take you right to the YouTube video

Badd Medicine

We can. I have android and it's not doing that for me. Wonder why that's doing thatπŸ€”

Badd Medicine

Can you please post the youtube link in the comments? The android app plays the youtube in the patreon app now and its a pain

So fun fact about the airing history of Attack on Titan! Season 1 came out in 2013 and there was a FOUR YEAR gap between season 1 and 2. This was because the Manga it is adapted from was only reaching the beginning of what would be season 2. The final wait time was also the last 2 episodes of season 4 had a 4 month wait in-between, which was terrible. lol

Eli

Honestly compared to majority of other anime, I don't really get the 'filler episode' feeling from AOT. That's probably due to AOT actually not having any at all ( which is really impressive for an anime that has more then 2 seasons ) & cause even the small details in this series are important. The directing & pacing in the episodes of AOT are some of the best overall. Also to me, I consider 'filler episodes' ones that added extra content that wasn't from the original source. So content that doesn't have anything to do with the main storyline or drive it forward, I consider this episode just slower paced then the usual

Great!!^^ All the best from AsiaπŸ˜ŠπŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°πŸ‡·

MJK

Oh .. no. Really impressed with the story and this show 😁🀘

Badd Medicine

No no, not with the show itself, just with the subtitles~ Just the impression I got ^^ if I am wrong then I am happy cause I dont want Dave to suffer hahahah Cheers🍻🍺

MJK

Not sure I'm following when you say Dave is unhappy? πŸ€” So far I've been very impressed with this show πŸ€™

Badd Medicine

Regarding your comment about the pacing: I very much agree that those 2 episodes were a bit stretched! With this anime though, where pacing and action is very intense and constant, it may feel that some episodes are slower but in reality they are not slow, just everything else is super fast :D Regarding sub vs dub: I do belive that 90% of the time, sub is much better in anime. Not to say that good dub doesn't exist, but most of the time it does fall flat in comparison. The same as watching Batman in German dub or Charnobyl in a Chinese dub. Even if the actors are good, there is always something off and akward, taking away from how the voice acting and sound was envisioned. If any of you have doubts (I think Dave is not happy) put dub for 5 or 10 minutes of already watched episode and see how you feel. If You like it more then switch. :D All the best! Cheers🍻

never heard of kenny omega, more of a ufc guy

TinCan Cosmanaut

Fun fact. The intro doesn’t change at all except for when a different season or part to a season. Also sometimes in OVA’s

Skellyp

Now i finally know who is Kenny Omega, big reveals as always lol

Vinicius Pacheco

In the anime community most people refer to filler as episodes that have nothing to do with driving the story forward (ex. a beach episode lol) I think this episode was just slower paced compared to the previous ones. AOT is one of the few anime that doesn't have any filler episodes. The first season overall is slower compared to the other seasons in my opinion. Anyways I get so excited every Monday for these uploads.

Joydan Bri’an

This episode definitely felt slower because there's no action yet going on, we're dealing on the emotional side and motivations of humanity. Thats the only reason i think u guys felt it was slow. And there is no Filler episodes in AOT.

Regie Khemvisay

In regards to filler, Attack on Titan doesn't have any. I've noticed there's some variety around how people define filler, some people view it as non canon episodes, so episodes that cover things that are not in the source material. Others classify it more around episodes that don't directly drive the main plot forward. The characters in AoT are important to the plot, so while some episodes are slower and more character focused, I think they're still important to the overall story Isayama is telling. The pacing in the first season is definitely a little slower than the other seasons but details are very important in this show. Glad you guys are liking it, happy to be along for the ride!

don't mind me giggeling to myself every monday, knowing I have an AOT reaction waiting for me

wanira 11

Season one is the slowest part of the series in my opinion. But it’s a very well paced show for the most part

Moons

πŸ€œπŸ€›

Badd Medicine

Yeah I'm with you Dave. This one definitely felt the most fillery. I would say this show does a pretty good job though of pacing and there aren't a lot of "filler" episodes like this. TWD was notoriously bad at times with this and it's nowhere near that

Ivan Rasmussen

Filler Is a fine perspective, In my mind I feel that a filler episode is like when the team goes to the beach LOL.

Daaylen Watson

Im sooo excited for future eps omfg

Angel

OMG! please watch Attack on titan in 9minutes by Gigguk after season 1 πŸ˜—

Iced Macchiato

Maybe filler was the wrong word to use.

Badd Medicine

You could call this episode filler but I feel like its more of a set-up episode than a filler episode. Thanks for the reaction as always, I got patreon for AOT and have been excited everyweek!
