EARLY ACCESS: Percy Jackson 1x2 FULL REACTION

The second episode delves even further into the world of Percy Jackson. In this episode, Percy forms new friendships while at camp. On top of that, Poseidon has claimed Percy as his son. Furthermore, Percy finds out that Zeus is claiming he stole his thunderbolt.

This episode takes the plot even further, and it’s enjoyable to watch. The incorporation of Greek mythology into the storyline. Not to mention the fantastic cinematography, landscape, color grading, and mythological character designs.  The show does a fantastic job of drawing in and holding your attention throughout the episode. The episode appears to have everything: intriguing characters, thrilling plot twists, and an interesting story.

Finally going back to this show, I watched the pilot when you posted the reaction, I thought it was alright but maybe too kid oriented (I thought the movies were ok too back then but I wasn't a fan). But I liked the 2nd episode more and the reaction was funny 😂 (not Mason and Oak giving the middle finger 🤣🤣🤣)

Aria Isara

Percy mentions only being a demigod since "last saturday" (episode 4), and Medusa was also on Saturday (said by Annabeth in episode 6) so it implies he's been at camp less than a week before he leaves for the quest.

EverShy

Its not explained well any where in these episodes, but these kids have many traits from their parents. Like Ares kids are more towards just fights in general, their dad being the god of war. And also, if 2 gods have problems or dislike with each other, their kids also might be more likely to dislike each others. Ares is Zeus's son and Percy is Poseidons son and them 2 big gods dont actually get along. So, Ares kids also might have more easily a problem with Poseidons kid.

Tina Aikaa

oh and yeah! they were renewed for season 2! :)

Jenna

soso glad you guys are enjoying it!! i think for the most part the season just gets better as it goes! the first two episodes were released together on the premiere night, so this was kinda of the introduction that yall have finally gotten through, and then the rest of the season was released weekly. cant wait for more! thanks guys!

Jenna

I’m well aware of the flaws people have with it. honestly, in some ways i’m TOO aware of it lol

Tori Jeri

Friendly Space Ninja on YT also summarized the problems that lots of people had with the show

L AH

Yeah, I understand what u mean. It all comes down to the thing we both mentioned. I do think the writers r great, they just need more runtime to be able to have that extra time for more exposure of the worlbuilding and to be able to expand more in detail when it came to certain events.

Maria

thank you so much!!

Tori Jeri

I agree with some of what you said. I don't think they need to tell us everything at the beginning, but I still think the writing still isn't what it could be. Compare it to Attack on Titan. That show leaves things up for interpretation and gives you something for the next episode without feeling incomplete. Idk what it is, but something about this series just seems rushed, like they're just hitting plot beats. It's just not all there yet.

J Knight

Yes, perhaps some details aren't yet mentioned, which they can add to the second season. There r some details only book readers will notice/know, but in my opinion they aren't something urgent for ppl to know for now and I don't think the writers intend to drop all of the information on viewers rightaway. In my opinion the writing was good considering the runtime and the importance of some details for the story of the first book or the theme and context they were going for for this season. There r certain things that won't be told rightaway and book readers as well need patience for them to be yet explored more in the next seasons and for those details to make sense with a given context and bc u can actually see all the things the characters had said or did r coming back in full circles and the same thing can have different contexts. Just bc they brush over some details doesn't make the writing bad in general. Although I do agree that we need more runtime for the 2nd season for them to be able to expand even more on certain things.

Maria

That's fair. We would be game for 60🤘

Badd Medicine

so far so good, been enjoying this much more than the movies, in terms of how close the content is to the books.

romaiiiii

I'd recommend omnimedia's reaction to the show

Cube Pylum

I always love watching your reactions, you guys are genuinely hilarious. From mason quinn flipping off a teen girl to diamond dave asking if percy's dad was aquaman, I had a blast with this one 😂

ernie

I want to LOVE this show because they have everything that would make a great adaption (cast, set, 5 book story); but the writing sucks a lot. So many random details left out that only people who read the books would know. I don't hate it overall though. It's just awkward.I think they'll find the groove in the second season. If they made it 60 minutes instead of 40 that would probably solve most problems tbh

J Knight

You guys are right about Chirons hind leg, it has some sort of prosthetic around it, it’s because in the myths Chiron was accidentally shot in his leg by Hercules with a poisoned arrow. The arrow should have killed him but since he is immortal he couldn’t die from it so he has to live with the eternal pain instead. Also awesome reaction, I can’t wait for next week!

Lis

It's not too clear in the series as much as in the books, but the reason Clarisse is so antagonistic is she was trying to have Percy renounce that Kleos, or Glory, he'd gained. He'd physically gained power on his first day and that upset her. There is also a little more than a few days between the arrival and the quest. Percy spent a few days asleep, woke up, we see two days, and then it skips a week to the Capture the Flag game. During that time he got a little basic training done. But not very much.

Thine Tiny Equine

Now I really like this show and it is more faithful than the movies but I will say there are certain things that become more and more obvious throughout the show. But walker and Leah as Percy and Annabeth are AMAZING! Remember that this is not going to be Harry Potter and it is known for being kinda violent even in this first couple of books. The only reason I say this is because I’ve seen a lot of people compare it to harry potter and they are 2 completely different stories and they are both good. Anyways great reaction and can’t wait till next week!

Abigail.M

Thank you. I will

NS

lol. Thank you💕

NS

agreed^ the movies don’t exist to us lol

Tori Jeri

please point me in the direction of those people cus I’ve had the complete opposite experience and Id love to watch those & have a better experience.

Tori Jeri

Really? Most I’ve seen have loved it

JD Galbraith

Clarisse is more of a bully in the books but in the show she comes off as a straight psychopath , which I love

Gandheezy

I can’t lie, I’ve been avoiding a lot of PJO reactions cus I noticed that a LOT of them have become super negative. I’m usually okay with hearing differing opinions with things I love and I can understand their POV, but for this show it felt like they already decided their opinion before going in. So it’s refreshing to see you guys actually giving it a chance. It also is a really important story to me since I grew up with the books since I was a kid. This was my generations Harry Potter. This story is important to a LOT of people, me included.

Tori Jeri

the movie also just completely changed the plot. It’s a fun time if you’re not well versed in the books, but I think it’s a good idea to see both of these as completely different entities because they essentially are. The movies are poor adaptations of the books but as movies alone they can be a fun time.

Tori Jeri

You should try the books they’re phenomenal ignore the movies tho

Marquis keel

I am watching for the first time alongside you guys. I didn't read the books or watch the movies growing up. It's fun so far and you guys are funny as usual.

NS

I gotcha...just keep in mind they know nothing about this universe and it's the first time their watching it...also if they dont have much knowledge on greek gods you see a trident and Aquaman comes to mind because thats what their familiar with. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Alyssa Dyson

I thought that capture the flag happens only once a week, if that. I assumed that Percy showed up on a Sunday or Saturday, spent the week in training, and played capture the flag on Friday, to leave on the quest the following Monday. Regardless, the show makes it clear when Luke reminds Percy that Clarissa should have left him alone “after a day or two” and that it was strange she “was still on him.” I feel like it’s clear that more than two days have passed. I just find the constant Aquaman jokes kind of weird, along with the obsession of where the shirt ends on Chiron. Just odd things to fixate on when the story is being told. Not bad. Just odd.

Kelsey Roberts

what are the "weird" things they've commented on? Just curious.

Alyssa Dyson

Percy was at camp less than a week. Maximum a week, but i doubt that. Edit: If I had to guess they left the camp on the seventh day (The show does offer some timelines here and there about it but I can't mention them bc of the spoilers).

Maria

lmao attention to details 🤷🏼‍♀️💜

Alyssa Dyson

No cause it was honestly driving me nuts too, every shot Chiron was in, I kept trying to take a peek as if my screen would show the bottom of his shirt LOL

Jorreca

It's such a treat that we get to see more world building for sure! Though the movie was great for me, it definitely wasn't enough time nor did they have enough budget for the intricate world and lore of Greek gods and its mythology.

Jorreca

In their defence, they've never touched on the world of Percy Jackson before, and from the way it was shot it would be hard to tell he's been there for weeks.

Jorreca

Oaks obsession with this dudes shirt is funny 🤣 wasnt sure about this show with the first episode but I really liked this one. 💜

Alyssa Dyson

The things y'all decide to comment on about this show are so weird. Also, Percy has been at camp for weeks. Not just a day.

Kelsey Roberts

ur reactions are always the best

Steph

GET IN LOSERS, WE'RE GOING ON A QUEST! 😎 This whole episode was literally Badd Medicine vs. teenage demi-god bullies and Oak vs. Chiron's dress shirt- IS IT TUCKED IN OR NOT?! 😂 I loved how much more we delved into the world of gods and monsters. I really liked the movie but this series is growing on me for sure.

Jorreca

Some fun facts about the show, Dan Hennah is the production designer for percy jackson and he was a production designer for Hobbit and the art director for Lord of the rings and many other wonderful works. It was incredible hearing his insights when it came to the designs of the places they worked on for this show. And Bear McCreary did such an incredible job when it came to the original soundtrack for the season. I feel like his works have such a character in them and how it differs from one another, how he shapes his music for different tones, characters and the atmosphere and all of it really. You also mentioned about the horn being a trophy and yes, the monsters do evaporate while there r certain things being left behind (minotaur horn for example). It's bc they r spoils of war. They r part or parts of a monster's body or an object used by a monster that does not disintegrate when killed. They can also be a belonging of some importance that is claimed from a defeated enemy. While many spoils of war are kept as trophies, they can serve a more practical purpose as well.

Maria

It's so fun seeing your reactions and seeing how much u enjoy it. The thing is when it comes to this adaptation I feel like they had to think about not only younger audiences but also for more mature one as well since there r so many ppl who grew up with these books, so when it comes to balancing all of it for it to be enjoyable for all ages I feel like they did a good job, especially when it comes to the writing. Ofc season by season (since the first series of percy jackson consists of 5 books) it's slowly gonna get darker and heavier and so far all the first season has been a great foundation to many things. The prosthetic leg on the centaur(Chiron) is how they portrayed the disability on the centaur itself (since he was also in a wheelchair). I just can't not mention how Annabeth had the plan thought out like 6 steps ahead and literally did couple of things at the same time, while she used Percy as a bait(to distract Clarisse and lead her team to victory) she also made him to trust his instincts/reflexes and show himself in order to be claimed (since she was stalking him at this point and noticed many things). In some way u can understand Clarisse. Luke, Annabeth and others r one thing for her, they kinda started from zero and slowly became one of the strongests at camp, I guess, there's some respect about it from others. Especially for Luke, who seems like some type of a leader that everyone looks upto there. And for Clarisse to see some unknown 12 yo kid, who just got here and already got some glory with the first try by killing the minotaur while most of them probably trained for so long and still didn't get such glory (not excusing her actions tho). But she also has some of the traits of her godly parent. I'm so excited for u to check out the rest of the season.

Maria

Ok so the owls aren't CGI. It's literally just some random owls they saw during filming and added it in 😊 pretty cool😊

Lori Mallory

So glad you guys are enjoying it! Really love that you have zero knowledge of the story, makes the reaction way more fun! Can't wait for more, it's so good

Amanda P

Ah yay I'm so excited that y'all are enjoying this one! I've read all the books and this adaptation has certainly impressed me so far! Thanks for such a great reaction 😊

Maddie Loftus

I love the show as a book reader. They do have a behind the scenes documentary I think you would enjoy after this! Some facts: They filmed Chiron's actor (Glynn Turman) on horseback for his scenes in the camp. Clarisse's spear was a gift from her dad which can't be replaced so when Percy broke it well.... haha. When a child is claimed the parent's symbol appears over the demigod's head so yes the trident was symbollic. Clarisse bullies pretty much every new kid, she has daddy issues. Dionysus is the god of wine, so Zeus punishing him by not allowing him to drink it amuses me. Also the names of the episodes are also some of the chapter names in the book!

LunaLee

As a book reader and a big PJO fan, I am so happy you love this show.

EverShy

Love that you guys are enjoying this fun wnd interesting series cuz I definitely did having only seen the first movie once and never read the books so great reaction and can't wait for more 😀 😊

Kyra Brown

I have been liking this series more than the movies.
