Great reaction gentlemen. I'm joining on for the ride so let's go!

Toan Toan

It is.

Eric Wallace

still good though.

Toan Toan

Right, I know that. It still doesn't excuse bad writing to be honest. There's nothing wrong with leaving a series incomplete vs just rushing an ending. In fact, the former is more desirable since it pushes people to send letters and start petitions to get more episodes greenlit so the story can continue.

Marco Gutierrez

Not quite. They had the greenlight for Season 2 before they were finished with the first season, but only just. That's WHY the final episode is so slapdash at the end with a sudden resolution after only 5 seconds of loss.

Amy Petty

They originally thought that they were only going to have one season at all - they were writing the last few episodes with that assumption in mind. The entire reason that the final episode goes the way it does is because they were greenlit for ONE additional season at the last minute. That's the reason for the sudden wrapup: because all of a sudden they DID know the series was going for at least one more season, but they had no time to adequately prepare.

Amy Petty

Can you tell me which episodes you're referring to? (I've seen the series, I'm just asking for the episode numbers).

Amy Petty

I've been anxiously waiting for y'all to get to this one. I loved Korra overall, but my largest criticism of the first season is the abrupt nature of Korra having her bending restored. I fully expected, the way things were set up, that a *significant* part of her story arc would be either the journey to reclaim her full capacity as the Avatar - or, in a more narratively daring move, learning to live with ONLY the ability to airbend. I'm aware that the writers thought they only had one season and had short notice in realizing they'd been greenlit for another one, but that doesn't change the fact that this is an extremely *bad* way to end a narrative arc. And given the demonstrated skill and talent of the writers, it's a shame that that's what they were given to work with.

Amy Petty

I actually liked LOK more because of the various topics (more mature) they explored in the show. Season 2 is widely taken as the weakest of all 4, but there are still an important journey to reach Book 3 + 4 which is awesome. Then read some of the comics when you have time after Book 4 (: There are actually comics that show what Aang and gang did after the show, which include Zuko going on the journey to find his mom

I didn't really see any bitterness from him in those scenes. He said it himself: it was time to put an end to this sad story and that's what he did. There was no future for them, not after all the awful things they'd done. This was how it had to end and Noatak allowed him to do it so he clearly agreed.

Raven Sub

I think Amon/Noatak knew his brother was going to do a double-suicide bc he can sense when ppl are moving bc of his blood bending and how he cried with that distant look on his face

Anna Du

Oh dang... Stay safe!

Badd Medicine

Perfect Hurricane watching material

A YouTube Name

Tarrlock ending his own sad story the only way he could . beautiful

Gandheezy

I thought your theories on why the one brother blew up the boat were interesting. The impression I got is that he was still bitter about his brother taking his bending away and a sense of hopelessness, since he has no idea that Korra can restore bending, so he took revenge on his brother and ended his own misery at the same time. That was just my impression on it.

Ginger

Also, Amon's Lt is dead--you can hear a very subtle neck snap just before Amon flings him away

Geoffrey of Monmouth

I randomly looked through some early avatar concept art online and found out Korra’s pet Naga looks almost exactly like the first design for Appa.

Ron Banks

I believe he meant this story could have been stretched to two seasons if they had the opportunity. I agree with this, I like season one but some of the prejudice against the nonbenders should have been put on display to build more sympathy for the equalist cause and to amp up the drama. I personally wasn't a fan of Amon being a bender, the spirit lie had more potential for me. Maybe it was how they placed his backstory that seemed pigeonholed. The end did feel forced and rushed, Korra suddenly getting air bending, Amon's final reveal, and I would have preferred her being left without the bending a little longer, it was too quick. Season 1 and 4 are my favs but but they all have issues, some are just less problematic for what I tend to look for in these shows.

Oulianor Timothee

It couldnt have been 2 seasons cause they didnt even have the greenlight for a second season til after s1 was finished

Zen Reacts

This ending for me felt very rushed. Everything up to this felt really good and then they were just like, wrap it up! This could've been two seasons easily and the whole losing their bending and getting it back the same episode didn't work for me. But glad you guys liked it!

I think it's really telling that Korra's first lines of the series are "I'm the Avatar", not "I'm Korra". She really does see herself only in those terms, which is why that final scene before she regains her bending is so heartbreaking--"I'm not the avatar anymore, get on with your life". She sees herself as worthless if she isn't the avatar, and any idea of personal self doesn't really exist beyond that. I'm fully convinced she was thinking of jumping off that cliff (especially given how far you'd already need to be leaning over it for a tear to fall down like that...) If Aang's journey was one of a kid learning to be the avatar, perhaps Korra's is of an Avatar learning to be human.

Geoffrey of Monmouth

Ending with the brothers is an emotional end to a sad story. Loved it.

James Ventola

I love the wrap up of the Amon/Tarlach storyline, but this episode is the start of the major problems with Korra in my opinion. For the first twos reasons of the show, Korra just isn't allowed to fail in any real sense. Whenever she does fail, it's always to serve the purpose of the narrative versus because of her own faults, like how Aang failed when he first tried to firebend and it traumatized him or when he put his trust in Jet only for him to turn out to be a merciless terrorist. Whne Korra fails in the first couple seasons, it's so they can introduce some new story or plotline, and she always just gets out of whatever problem she's in with no real issue once that plotline has been started. I don't think there's any in universe explanation for how she can just suddenly airbend except that it was what the plot called for in order to further suspense. In reality, if the show had been greenlit for multiple seasons, Korra likely wouldn't have gotten her airbending in this episode and would have continued trying to connect with the spiritual stuff for multiple seasons. But since they didn't know if the series would continue, they jsut decided to wrap it up here which is why it seems like such an ass pull in my opinion. Still, I'm looking forward to you guys getting to a couple of really awesome and important episodes in the next season.

Marco Gutierrez

Brace yourselves. Book 2 is the weakest.

Eric Wallace

At 22:08, with the tear going down that side of the cliff and Aang saying she was at her lowest point, I firmly believe that she was contemplating whether or not to jump off the cliff. Instead, with her sitting down and crying it out, she pulled back to "the light" (if you will) and that's when Aang showed himself. I could be wrong, but that's how I perceived it. Either way, an emotional scene to be sure.

Culper (Lukas)

Book 1 of 4 down, so much fun as always guys! There's a real-world implication to this, the creators/writers were never given a green light for an entire series up front, so some storylines had to wrap up in the span of a single season. The later the show goes on the more cohesive the storytelling becomes, with carry-over between seasons and continuations of characters/plot points. Book 2 is the weakest of the four by most accounts, but has arguably the two most important episodes of the entire series and it sets up 3 and 4 to take the story to another level. Can't wait for you all to see it!

Bobby Kraus

you guys are legends, loving this series with you guys
