EARLY ACCESS: Thor Love & Thunder FULL REACTION
Added 2022-09-09 15:05:28 +0000 UTC
Folks, if you like checking out our reviews, this one gets HEATED!
This movie had a lot of potential, but just something didn't click with some of us. Love all the actors as they did great. We definitely will watch the next Thor regardless of how we feel on this.
Looking forward to your reactions and thoughts on this one.
Thank you to you all and have an awesome weekend!
This. The tonal hop-scotch in Dark World and Ragnarok are what make those among the weakest titles in the MCU as far as I'm concerned, but the writing nonetheless was on point for both and they *work*. I think they were aiming for the same effect with this one. But the humor only serves in this title to throw the whole movie off-kilter.

This installment of Thor was a major disappointment for me. I was never particularly interested in the comics character, but I love the MCU, so of course I watched the first Thor movie as part and parcel of that. Even now as far as I'm concerned it's one of the lesser MCU titles - it's primary value is knowing the backstories for Thor and Loki and simply being a chapter within the Infinity Saga. Otherwise I don't think it's all that memorable. But then they gave us Dark World and Ragnarok and I'm mostly left conflicted. Both movies are *better* by FAR than the original Thor movie, but tonally they are all over the map, both in terms of their *own* stories but also in relationship to the greater Infinity Saga storyline. I've enjoyed them tremendously and happily re-watch them as the mood strikes, but nonetheless they're pretty weak installments in the MCU. I've always felt like the issue was taking an otherwise genuinely fun movie with a reasonably solid storyline despite the comedic tone, and trying to make it take itself seriously as part of the Infinity drama.
And then they gave us...this. A worse Thor movie than the original. Whatever they did to make Dark World and Ragnarok work despite their tonal dissonance just...did not work for this one. Which is a shame, because Thor's continuing personal story of self-discovery and the hints at the greater MCU narrative arc, were interesting enough. But the tragic narrative beats and darker storyline behind Gorr set alongside the attempts at humor don't mesh. Tonally speaking it's an incongruous mess that interferes with the overall story.

I think Gorr makes a better Voldemort.
Personally I felt this movie was the same caliber as Ragnarok, I didn’t really care for either movie because I don’t like feeling Thor has been dumbed down from the first movie. I liked the feel of the original movie and do not like the comedy style of the last two movies.
I did think Gorr was a great character and deserved more screen time.
I also don’t think we were supposed to laugh in the scene at the beginning when Gorr made his way into a garden and met his god. I think the outrage that Oak felt about that scene is what we were supposed to feel. 😎

suppose a lot of the reason some people didn't like it was also cause marvel gave the impression that the next movie would be about the asguardians of the galaxy and their shenanigans which we got very little of

as weird as the screaming goats are its a throw back to the old myth that thor's chariot is pulled by two rams so at least its got that going for it. but the screaming does get old.

The director thinking he’s so funny is the reason this was shit he ruined the greatest thor villian and wasted one of the best comics in mighty Thor Thank the gods he’s not coming back

enjoy you guys much and really appreciate your reactions! l would like to offer another perspective on this one. l think if you take this film on it's own you can appreciate it more. There are definitely signatures of the director if you have his other work (Jojo Rabbit and What We Do In Shadows) Do to that l completely saw the opening differently. He has a style of making farcical characterizations of powerful figures so l didn't see Ragu as comical or the flowers. Zeus l thought was also his take on power like his Hitler in Jojo Rabbit. This seemed to me to his classic comictragedy style. As for it's place in the Thor cannon, Gorr's look is almost like the comic rendering so no Potter influences and it overall seemed to be an ode to 1980s Thor. l enjoyed it from that perspective. Again you guys are awesome

Hey Jack. Fair points you bring up. It seems that this phase is a bit lighter. For DC I think Black Adam can turn it around. As long as they let DJ run it
With it lol.

Personally the MCU is far too over saturated for me to remotely enjoy it anymore & it bums me out. Happy for those that can, but after Endgame & the latest Spider-Man, there are just too many shows & the films are just a joke. Every single hero is constantly joking or are being written to have cheap gimmicks that don’t have much depth anymore & it’s a shame. I’ve always loved both MCU & DC, but there are just too many damn shows for your average working person to keep up with & that’s not a good thing after a certain point. The first 3 Thor films were my fave of the Thor films, ragnarok was okaaay if you didn’t take it serious at all I guess lol. But hopefully the DC films can get over the drama with the flash actor & we can move forward into the dark gritty superhero films I grew to love. The comedy is okay to have of course but SPARINGLY for crying out loud 😂

While I lmao and had so much fun watching this one, I can DEF see how it went just a bit too far with the outrageous comedy and ultra 80's shtick for others. For me it is a great switchup from the standard MCU content, which I personally needed after Multiverse of Madness which I was NOT AT ALL a fan of! It's like..... Ragnorak was Taika on 5 which is much more universally palatable, but Love & Thunder is Taika on 10..... and apparently it's just too much for some!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Totally understandable but me, I ate it up🤘🏻

Maybe, if they would have put Gorr and his story in The Dark World, it would be the best Thor movie.

The main criticism from people, who saw that in the theater, was the misplaced humor, that ruined the serious moments and the opening scene just showed that. The best thing was Christian Bale, the soundtrack and the fight scenes against Gorr. For me it's the worst Thor movie. Thor The Dark World was way better than this. Loki alone made the movie better than this one.

A lot of my friends who read the comics weren’t a fan. I personally really enjoyed this movie as someone who hasn’t read the comics. I loved the cinematography especially when they went to the shadow planet. I enjoyed the story between Jane and Thor. I laughed a lot and it helped especially at the end when I was sobbing like a baby in the theater. The depiction of what a personboth physically and mentally go through was done well, both with the cancer and Natalie Portman and the sword with a decaying Christian bale. As someone who watched a relative lose to cancer I really felt that side of the movie. My only critique would of been to have more Christian Bale. I would of liked to see how he actually was the God Slayer. We only saw him kill one. Christian Bale was so good as the villain so that would be my critique, more of him.

Same! It was good, loads better than the 2nd one, but they just did too much. It was like that obnoxiously entertaining friend wrote and directed.
