We don't know much about the books. Curious to everyone's thoughts on this episode if you are into the books.

Yeah it is fair guys.. It is slow paced. But thats what I want for the series, because LoTR is so packed with actions and adventures, this one give me enough information and explanation to things, and the scenery is awesome.

That book is like the size of the Bible lol and The Silmarillion is even slower than LotR, because it's basically just different stories all packed into one book, and it lacks the "camaraderie" of LotR & The Hobbit. A cousin in law of mine loves Tolkien like I do, and they will criticize how Tolkien would spend like a paragraph describing just one flower in a field of flowers. Tolkien is one of the best writers ever but he is also the king of 'omg just get to the POINT already I didn't come here to read a filibuster' 🤣

2022-09-04 17:47:52 +0000 UTCFor me, it had been 12 hours since the episodes came out until I finally got the chance to see them and one of the first things I saw was the IMBD score… 6.2/10. I was expecting the worst. I’ll be honest, I’m sitting at around an 8/10 right now. It looks beautiful (this is movie quality, but I will say, some of the characters faces look too smooth, aka, a lot of editing), the score is great for this show, and the writing so far is decent. Slow in some parts, especially the hobbit parts, but I’m loving the new lore and the callbacks. Since we are getting two prequel shows at the same time… No spoilers, but I think house of the dragon is better than rings of power.

2022-09-04 14:49:23 +0000 UTCI love the pace thus far; I was really concerned they might move too fast for me to follow, but so far, I'm keeping up and am truly enjoying all of the characters, scenery, set pieces, wardrobe, etc ... my favorite character, so far, is Nori (not sure how to spell the name)... I awate the following episodes with great anticipation.

They don't have the rights the actual source material, only the appendices from the Lord of the Rings. They have already killed off characters that were alive in the lord of the rings (that we actually see in the movies) and have compressed a 3500 year timeline down into a few hundred years. I could go on, but this show is just a generic fantasy story with some tolkien names sprinkled on top.... It's super sad too, because there was so much hope and so many good stories that could have been told. I cannot express the amount of untapped potential in this series. I will be watching the whole show because Tolkien is my favorite fandom, but I am so dissapointed.... I keep trying to be hopeful, and it keeps getting worse, lol.

2022-09-03 14:47:37 +0000 UTCI've read the LOTR and The Hobbit books when I was younger and really loved the LOTR movies as well. I enjoyed The Hobbit movies but just wasn't as into them as the previous films. Having said that I'm not a diehard (when it comes to the books) or the type to get to hung up on adaptations as some, I'm just happy to get more from the world as long as it's an enjoyable watch and good story. I surely can understand those diehard fans and others not being as easy to please as I am, I only speak on my own opinions and never on the opinions of others. Different strokes for different folks and all that!lol Am I gonna love this, dislike this, I can't say for certain seeing its only episode 2, but so far I'm mesmerized by the visuals, really into the music, and wanting to see what's to come story wise. Idk if I've ever seen a more crisp looking show before, my goodness! So for me it's so far so good.
