What's Coming in September for Oldsunset

We started the month of September with a completely different and even a little unusual proposal! By consulting the game files, we were able to retrieve the beta skintone and eyes. This made me extremely excited to start bringing the inhabitants of OldSunset to life.

And with that comes the third phase of the project!

While the first phase was land formation and redevelopment from Sunset to OldSunset and took approximately 8 years, the second phase focused exclusively on the development of new commercial and residential lots. The third phase will be and is being a hybrid work as announced on patreon a few days ago. This level is one of the most complex so far, because we're going to stitch together the timeline for the residents of OldSunset. And the really sad part is that it won't be a work that can be shared with everyone like it has been until now. Because it's not just about sharing Sims within lots, it goes much further. It involves building your narratives, life stories, relationships, past, present and future, and much more.

In other words, it would only make sense for me to share the save, if I was able to give life to an ENTIRE generation within OldSunset every month. And I could… but it would be half-assed work. And I don't want that.

For example: Milton and Enriqueta Bachelor would not need their respective younger versions, after all they will arrive on the map deceased. But, I know that like me, there are many players who love resurrecting ghosts. How would you react if Simis Bachelor's biography had an excellent story, data and memories, and when resurrecting the ghosts of his parents, they had absolutely no relation to their son, absolutely no ability or significance to support the story? solid history of Simis Bachelor? In other words: Immersion break. Do you agree with me?

I've been in this franchise for 18 years, and I'm sick of immersive breaks. It may be a silly detail, but The Sims 4 took it even further, showing the fundamental importance of a good story in creating a connection with the player. And it's one of the main reasons why I value so much the coherence between the story that is told, and the data that is presented within the game.

Therefore, all Sims will have younger versions. Even though Enriqueta and Milton don't have parents and I don't intend to raise them because that would lead to infinity and beyond, the story has to start somewhere. And I would like to be able to explain their personalities and justify them through their life stages! Why is Milton so hot headed and complicated while Enriqueta is so sweet and silly? Only his past could justify in a profoundly complex and interesting way. And that's not a story I could easily tell INSIDE the game, because Milton and Enriqueta don't have parents and because the game doesn't have a way to save different bios for each level and save costume, hair and makeup data for them.

In other words, the only way to be able to tell this story in a way that you can see it, touch it and experience it, would be, at this point, to share the Sims separately. Gathering their memories, building their stories and keeping them in their diaries, which fortunately can afford this valuable data for the contextualization of the beginning of their lives in OldSunset. In the end, they are a variation of Adam and Eve and you will be able to understand HOW they arrived on the First day of their memories at OldSunset.

This was the way I found to give their personalities a justification, facing the way they lived their lives until they had the chance to get to know each other. This will apply to all first generation Sims. They will receive an Origin story that will explain much of the behavior, thoughts and attitudes of the next generations.

These are all examples of how stories will be told within OldSunset. Memories will not work like in The Sims 2, where the same event generated similar memories. Milton, for example, demonstrates his love through attitudes, one of which is cooking for Enriqueta at times. This is so natural to him that he doesn't keep it as a memorable memory. But Enriqueta, on the other hand, is almost always impressed by this action, which gives her memories related to it.

Milton's banal is striking for Enriqueta and vice versa. So, to discover this couple's story, you'll need to see it from their perspective. And it will be the third part that will make the magic happen.

What happens when different people access and receive the same story?

Theories! And theories keep games alive for years. That's why this unique perspective makes each of the Sims so special, it'll make you want to get to know them for real!

Sunset Valley tried something similar. But there is a great lack of coherence between what is said and what is shown. There's a lot of data missing. Because a story isn't just based on a short biography, it needs information! And since diaries were something added from The Sims 3 Generations onwards, it wasn't a problem they decided to go back to repair… So given the superficiality, it's impossible for us to understand yet, what the origins of Victor Goth for example!

How do you unite Gunther's appearance, personality and stories from The Sims 1, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 to give the player a clear picture of how he's changed over the years? From goth, to charming and then to a sweet and friendly looking gentleman? All this is taken into account when I start Creating for OldSunset.

I would like to provide at least a viable experience for you to experience these stories. That's why I decided to share with the map updates (which from now on should be less impactful, as we'll be working on MICRO details to give the lots the personality of their residents) each young version of all the Sims that will be part of OldSunset while the world is not ready. That is: baby, child, teenager, young-adult, adult and elderly. Along with that, I'm sharing the patterns and fabrics used in these Sims' clothing, as well as their hair and eye colors, so you can use them on other Sims whenever you want.

Something really hard to find in The Sims 3 are friendly patterns and colors that look good on any Sim. But this problem will be solved by me in this way. (Since there is no way to override the defaults the game features yet).

In addition, supporters will have monthly access to exclusive content, reporting information, changes, tweaks and more in the Sims' history EXCLUSIVELY through Patreon.

This is the most important phase of this project and the best way to convey changes will be with at least 2-5 weekly update posts. Every day there are small advances happening at OldSunset! And this will be my commitment to whoever chooses to support this ambitious project.

The Sims will have so much personality, skills, relationships, and rich depth that it will be almost like playing The Sims 2 within The Sims 3, only even deeper! This is the base view for OldSunset. With this, the districts throughout this process must have their identities even more demarcated. Several community lots are expected to emerge as a result of investment acquisitions by some families in the neighborhood. Houses must undergo small changes over the ages. After all, the shrub that has flowers today had to be planted in the past. Supporters will experience these changes lightly and subtly over the next few months.

I won't say it's almost a challenge of the decades, because that would require COMPLETELY changing the map. And I know you don't want to wait that long. But subtle and minor changes are possible mainly to tell the stories that will make these Sims so unique and special!

It's important to remember that masterfully stitching a timeline goes far beyond just putting the Sims in their respective life stages as has been done on other maps. Coherence and continuity are important values for me when I envision the OldSunset project. While most people interpret that I am creating a world, for me, I am creating a game. Which means there's no room for silly mistakes if I want OldSunset to be elevated to the level of Art. That's why I'm taking the time to give Sims the attention they deserve.

In short: In addition to minor map improvements, with the restructuring of the house where the first generation of the Bachelor Family will live, this update will bring 18 Sims (which are Milton, Enriqueta and their son Simis) in all their age variations with unique bios in the Create a Sim library. It is important to remember that: At this time, Sims do not have any skill, memory, relationship or anything related to the game that is possible to apply outside of Create a Sim.

I could share the core with all of this, but it wouldn't make sense, because they're not an ISOLATED life from the rest of OldSunset. So if you did, you wouldn't have a chance to find out who your friends, neighbors, and other relatives in the main core are. And what is your connection with the rest of the map. Another reason is that it would require redoing each step infinite times with each new OldSunset update. That is, it is not feasible.

In case you don't know, at the same time I'll make a "manual" or what I prefer to call a "Collector's Edition" which is a digital book (and in the future physical) with more than 300 pages that will detail every little detail of these Sims' lives. And maybe you ask yourself: "Is this really necessary?". Yup.

OldSunset is my life's work. I take it as seriously as if I were a Simguru. And it's important because starting in my 30s I want to dedicate my days to playing The Sims 3 in simulation mode. I'm creating the game I've always wanted. And that's why he's going to have a VERY RICH manual in detail to make it all even more magical!

Details ranging from Sims Traits, demographics, population growth, lot descriptions to the best places to collect seeds, gems and more. And of course, LOTS of information on how to enjoy OldSunset in the best way through simulation mode. It's almost a Prima Guide, but better. It is important to remember that the memories of these Sims will be present in this book as well.

In addition, I will also share the texture and fabric assets used in the making of these Sims. So that you can use it in other families without having to re-enter and save each of these patterns. All of this will be made available separately so you can choose what you want to see in your game and what you don't.

That said, with the hybrid process over the next few months several commercial lots that still need to be incorporated into the map will arrive. Just like lots of diving (which I know y'all love)

In the meantime, I would like to deeply thank you for the support, love and dedication you have with me to take the reins of this project and make it profoundly different from anything we've seen before. Without your support, none of this would be possible in the same way it has been and with the speed at which we have evolved. Thank you for allowing me to spend more time involved in this project that would otherwise have to be secondary and parallel to my main activities.
