The power to command is something we all recognize in the world. A force so natural, it’s almost invisible. Personally, I’ve always resisted observing authority. It’s lead to a life where I’ve easily slid into the roll myself. In most situations, people are so unwilling to assign themselves authority, that anyone who does, gets the job.
On a couple of occasions a line has formed at conventions that blocks my table. I’ll just get up and start waving my arms like an air traffic controller, commanding people in a loud clear voice that “the line forms this way”. I try to make sure the line blocks as few vendors as possible and that anyone who does get screwed, had it coming.
In the fiction of Angelarium, Samyaza shows up and just starts being the boss. No threats. Just a commanding stature and an air of wisdom. A lot about holding power is just nailing the right tone. I figure that holds true as much today as it did at the dawn of mankind.
