if you've been in "the scene" for a minute, there's a good chance you've had some mixed feelings about the concept of community. for me, it comes in waves. sometimes, i feel so loved and so welcomed and so supported. so grateful to have found the people who "get it", who are into the same freaky shit as me, who are as stoked to nerd out about this extremely niche hobby as i am. and sometimes it feels like i'm back in high school, with the talking smack and the cliques and the feeling of never-enough. after this weekend, i've come to this conclusion: community isn't so much about the people in it, because more often than not, we don't get to choose that. community is about care, about patience, about acceptance, and about repair. it's about how we treat each other (sometimes when we disagree), its about how we show up for each other, its about caring for each other deeply and genuinely. community isn't about who, it's about how.
