This update onwards allows fairly straightforward skillpoint earning via leveling up, which you can use to up your various stats as you go through the game. Pause the game and access it straight from the menu. Pretty basic!
You can also spend Purity Points directly to earn additional Skillpoints and augment your stats further for a nice little purchasable bonus. The Purity Abess located in Ingrissvern (the town above the Nightgale Woods) should hook you right up!
