New Video: A better way to picture atoms!

This one took a lot more work than usual, and there's more to come. Thanks as always for your support,

I also cannot access the discord server :( It would be really cool to have some high resolution rendering of these atomic representations 😊 Thank you for your awesome projects!

I'm having trouble with the discord link as well. When I attempt to join it says "The invite is invalid or has expired". I linked my Patreon with Discord, but that didn't help.

Andrew Van Horn

Discord!! thanks! did the invite expire on it or is it Me?

FYI: I've made a discord server for this (since there are a number of people interested in learning/helping): https://discord.gg/FgatxGUy

I'd also be super interested in seeing that code! I work on writing computational physics curricula (at Grinnell, fwiw) and I feel like that'd be a way better way to discuss orbitals and spherical harmonics than what I've got now

Sage Kaplan-Goland

As a high school Science teacher, thank you! This is so useful and I am showing my class today

Callie Reynolds Massey-Reed

(also they are poorly commented from the physics perspective...)

I may eventually, though I'm actually using a bit of a hack involving mathematica, blender, & python, so I'm not sure how useful it would be. Also I'm still working on improving them for molecules, multi-electron atoms, etc

Henry Reich

I don't suppose you have any plans to release those python scripts?

Fletcher Porter

Interesting idea! I'm planning to release them all for use on wikipedia, etc, but prints would be nice.

Henry Reich

Hey Henry, would it be possible for you to publish some of these 3D atom depictions as buyable prints? I think that would be awesome!

Wilson Whillans

Thanks!

This is one of those videos which can branch into each orbital with animations and descriptions. It is just mesmerizing to watch over and over again!

Tim Nelson

I always love a good MinutePhysics video, but this one was just above-and-beyond beautiful.
