In this video, I explore the new Cubase 14 update, especially focusing on its ability to work with the DAWPROJECT file format. DAWPROJECT, developed by Bitwig and others, is an open-source format for transferring projects between DAWs. I’m testing it here by exporting a Bitwig project, then importing it into Cubase to see what translates well and what doesn’t.
While it’s promising, there are some limitations with how different elements (like stretch modes and automation) import. Let’s dive into how well this feature works and what it means for using Bitwig and Cubase together.
DAWPROJECT Format: A new, open-source format for transferring DAW projects between applications, initially supported by Cubase 14.
Testing Export/Import: I exported a project from Bitwig, imported it into Cubase, and observed which elements were correctly transferred.
Import Issues: Not all elements imported perfectly – issues included missing stretch modes, automation, and certain plugins that didn’t translate from Bitwig to Cubase.
Workflow Compatibility: This feature is a work-in-progress; while basic structure transfers, some information is lost in re-importing.
User Feedback Requested: I’m curious if viewers find this useful for their workflow and if they’d use Cubase and Bitwig interchangeably.
