New experiment! In this video, I’m discussing how many music producers, myself included, sometimes get stuck in cycles of perfectionism and overthinking during music production. This often happens when we spend too long tweaking sounds, mixdowns, or mastering, which can ultimately make things worse instead of better. My approach is to set internal time limits, keeping the flow of creativity alive without overanalyzing. I reflect on how technical skills should come naturally with practice, and overthinking can hinder the creative process. I also touch on the importance of self-reflection over chasing new gear as a solution to creative blocks.
Key points:
Overthinking and tweaking too long can harm creativity.
Setting internal time limits helps stay in the flow state.
Creativity works best when technical skills are instinctive, not forced.
New gear can be inspiring, but it shouldn't distract from internal challenges.
Self-reflection is crucial in overcoming perfectionism and finding creative balance.
