In this video, I share two tips for enhancing your kick drums in Bitwig Studio, plus a workaround for achieving a "bass mono" effect similar to what you find in Ableton's utility device.
Adding Texture to Kick Drums: I show you how to make clean kick drums sound more textured and alive by introducing noise and modulation using different methods in Bitwig Studio, including some custom presets and EQ tricks.
Creating a Bass Mono Effect in Bitwig: I walk you through how to recreate the "bass mono" feature from Ableton by splitting the audio into mid/side channels and using EQ to strip out stereo information from the low frequencies.
Kick Drum Texturing:
I suggest using "fake distortion" presets or VSTs like "Crisp" to add noise without the harshness of heavy distortion.
I demonstrate how to modulate EQ bands with random modulators to introduce controlled noise in specific frequency ranges.
You can apply these techniques selectively to other parts of your drum mix, like snares or hi-hats, for a more cohesive sound.
Bass Mono Workaround:
I explain how to use mid/side processing and EQ to make low frequencies mono, similar to what you get with Ableton's utility effect.
I show you how to create a preset in Bitwig's FX grid that mimics this functionality, making it easy to apply in future projects.
