Simple Generative in The Grid

In my video, I walk the viewers through the process of creating a generative patch in Bitwig Studio, starting simple and gradually adding complexity. Here are the key points:
Initial Setup
- I start with an empty project in Bitwig and set the tempo to 85 BPM.
- I use a Polygrid device as the foundation for the patch.
Creating Nodes & Sequencer
- I use the Pitches module to create a collection of nodes in the A minor scale.
- A counter is used to advance the step sequencer, manipulating which notes are played.
Sound Generation
- I use a wavetable oscillator to produce sound.
- Envelopes, reverb, and other effects are added to shape the tone.
Modulation & Control
- I show how modulating the counter can change the melody.
- I introduce the concept of using time-delayed pitch signals to modulate other parameters, like the index of the wavetable or filter frequency.
Advanced Techniques
- Voice stacking is introduced, using three different octaves to play the patch.
- I use a bandpass filter and further modulation techniques to make the sound more dynamic and interesting.
Finding the Sweet Spot
- Emphasis is on finding the balance between too random and too monotonous to make the patch enjoyable.
Recording & Final Tips
- I explain how to record the output using a note output module.
- I address some MPE details and how to avoid unwanted micro-expressions.
