Brief thoughts (now public)

Posted for the public. Feel free to share.
Full breakdown with both boys coming Sunday, of course. Stay strong, treat yourself kindly.
For the shortened campaign period, I totally blame Biden and his staff. He should never have announced reelection in 2022 or whenever it was.

Trump is sigma? Yikes. Tell those boys they're cooked.

So true. Let's make Democratic strategist a real job again.

There's certainly strength in numbers, but I would rather see a ballot measure for rank choice voting come the midterms. Rank choice voting during the presidential election would empower voters in new ways and let people vote their conscience instead of for harm-reduction.

I'm already talking about this with my family. I drew a comparison to Hillary's campaign in 2016 and not because of gender but for how the primaries are handled in both cases. If the Democratic Party is going to continue circumventing primary voters I think "we" will continue to lose.
This entire primary season we talked about how it was primary votes that mattered the most - where we got to air out our criticisms before locking in the harm-reduction vote. The general election sucked, but also I hate the Dems for pulling an Uno reverse after another primary only to lose to Trump. Democratic strategist is a fake job for real because anyone would tell you 3 months is not enought time to run a succesful campaign.

The hurdle that needs to be overcome at this point is bringing left leaning groups together. Groups like task force butler and the working families party need to be at the same table and converging on a path forward.
Chances are Walz will be the next democratic nominee. We need to show that progressive policies like his can win. Abortion and $15 minimum wage won in fucking Missouri. If we can get populism on the midterm ballots, we can turn this around.

We need to build a party that inspires the progressive left instead of pandering and grifting to a concrete base of uninformed rightys.
Additionally while building this leftest stronghold, our party needs to start listening to the young progressive leaders and educators such as Hassan and yourselves, as the right has began to implement and take advantage of the bases of Charlie Kirk and Joe Rogan

It’s racist and dumb, bc it doesn’t even look like the stats will back it up. “Blame anyone but yourself” mentality

appreciate & fully agree with this take. have seen some of the most vile racist takes from liberals today especially about arabs :/ very frustrating to see as a person from southern lebanon who sucked it up and voted for her anyway

I’ve started listening to the very first episode of the pod and it’s the same thing they ran on now that you talked about then. That’s to say, I’m an ESL teacher in Norway for high schoolers. None were surprised about the outcome and the boys are saying “Donald Trump is sigma”. It’s definitely a challenge for me as a middle class female educated teacher to really relate to teenage boys. But I try to be curious and I do enjoy picking their brain on this stuff. Norway is very different from the US, but the boys are definitely feeling alienated everywhere. I don’t know.

Yea I feel not only did she just not have the sauce needed especially on tv but they were having a hard time communicating stuff properly to voters and couldn’t convince them to come out and vote. I felt she had a chance but couldn’t pull it out in the end when it should have been much easier

great points, it’s been hard to push back the immediate anger and frustration that came with trump winning and begin to look introspectively. looking forward to sundays commentary as our heads start to clear

Yeah, i feel the same way. I reject the notion that the global skew against incumbents made this race unwinnable. I think Harris could've pulled it off, but did not have the narrative required to do it.

Atleast at the moment I’d still try to gather my thoughts too on this momentous failure from dems. the running to the right to try and get voters who definitely are not going to vote for you is ridiculous. And then coming out of with anyone thinking they need to be more to the right is honestly dangerous and I really hope this is not the lesson from this. The ratcheting effect we keep talking about is happening in our faces and we move more to the right everyday while alienating any leftist or progressive movement and if dems think at all that it will win them another campaign they’re delusional. I was ready to be so coconut pilled and libbed up but back to being liberals top opp lmao. Love the content tho keep it coming.

All we can do is push back against those silly narratives, which is partially what I tried to do here. People want to see their needs addressed, and Dems have failed

Yeah, I do think it’s majorly Biden’s fault. If he announces being a one term president in 2022, we would’ve had years to prepare.

I'm scared that the wrong lessons are being learned; lots of political analysts saying some shit about how the party needs to move more to the right, that the party is too woke or whatever. I'm freaked

I hope the DNC finally learns that primaries MATTER. Its important to see which candidate meets the moment and not just anoint the next in line. 2020 was the only election of the past three where the democrat won and it was also the only year that had a competitive primary. I blame Biden for trying to run for reelection and putting Kamala in a position where she had to be everything to everyone.

The Dems have shifted away from the working class and catered way too much to the donor class. Now we have the Republicans which are the Trump party and the Democrats who are the new Republican Party.

Oh my god things like universal broadband, price caps on insulin, paid paternity leave, etc. were things in democratic bills under Biden but she didn't run on any of it!!!! That stuff is so popular and so important!!

Agreed. We need a narrative that is simple and inclusive and meets peoples need, and importantly one not built on demonizing minority groups (because republicans will always be far better at that than democrats).

We also have to actually get to know those people where they are and build bridges in those communities, often through their churches. That’s part of why Whitmer was so popular, she visited every county and took up broadband access as one of her key issues because that’s what those communities need. Obviously I have a lot of thoughts about this lol

Yes exactly. The Republican Party ceases to exist politically without white people, except in very rural areas maybe. Its a narrative problem for Dems, they have no answer for when liberal institutions are seen as failures.

I also think we on the left need to realize that most of America lives close to where they were born, surrounded by family who have always voted the same way, may not have had access to good textbooks (the right has been whitewashing those for years), and are overall happy enough that the idea of change scares them. That’s why the immigrants bad ads were all over the place and the fact that the campaign didn’t put out ads counteracting that is beyond me. They could have had ads that said only good immigrants were going to come and there would be one job for each immigrant and a million high paying jobs for them. We can’t just say every one of those people are stupid and look down on them and then be surprised they don’t vote Democrat

Abortion only had less than 50% support in South Dakota, a state that is literally irrelevant to the Electoral College. Progressive policies win in red and blue states alike (Nebraska just passed state wide paid sick leave!!!). Time to lock in and push the democrats like crazy

All true. Capitulating to conservatives was never the answer. People even in deep, red states were majorly in agreement for popular policies like higher minimum wage, recreational marijuana, and abortion.
The lock-in’s gonna be real. And the work needs to start now.
