When someone makes an argument from state's rights, they are usually appealing to the idea that individual states should make decisions about their laws and population, not the federal government. Anytime we invoke it, we are making fun of conservatives. "State's Rights" has been used to justify all kinds of harmful things like slavery and now abortion restrictions.
