2023-11-17 15:27:07 +0000 UTCRe: calls not to vote for Biden - I think the issue is that it’s hard to convince people disgusted by or dissuaded from voting by the system and the current state of things. I didn’t see this Lolo vid, but I find he’s deeply emotionally affected by his clients and the world, which is good. But that makes it very easy to become nihilistic and as a result people abstain from voting. You mention that in a parliamentary system it might be less of an issue to vote for a third party, which is technically true, but I live in Canada and rest assured, we basically have a two party system. Votes for the NDP are usually seen as splitting the left vote and dooming the Liberal Party, and that’s sometimes true. In general I think it’s just hard to sell people on harm reduction when the genocide in Gaza is ostensibly what reduced harm looks like. I agree that it’s still the right choice, but it might not seem like that to some.

2023-11-14 17:06:04 +0000 UTCSomething that’s really interesting about the whole Ohio GOP taking interpreting rights away from courts… the Wisconsin GOP has hit a wall with their momentum on doing the same with the recently elected Supreme Court justice. So crazy this is the world we live in. Hopefully they hit a wall and something changes with that reality. Representation means nothing when people approve a ballot measure I guess. This is a very grim outlook for other states in the same position.
