Update on our Repairs 08.11.2023

We've been busy bees and managed to sand down the larger of the 2 impacts (aft impact) and laid the first 5 sheets of fiberglass on the outside. Wohoo! π₯³π₯³
So at least this one is sealed now since we had a few heavy rain showers in the meantime. π±
For the first 2 days of our repairs, we had a gentleman from Spain helping us but unfortunately, he did not feel comfortable of rebuilding the bulkhead and hull after all.
So, now it is up to us to become fiberglass specialists and get CUBA back in shape. πͺπͺ
Now that the aft is sealed with the first fiberglass sheets, we put our attention to the front damage and - uff - after clearing out all the debris there, we got yet another, even bigger hole in our boat! π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
We still have a assess the damage here a bit more but hopefully this is more of less what it is.
It's all good though - we are staying positive and make sure to keep our energy levels topped up with some good 'local' cuisine.... π
We added some captions to the pictures so it is easier to see which ones are from the aft and which ones from the front impact.

Thank you so much for your trust in us doing the repairs- we are still gathering our strength to tackle it the best way since we have never done such an extensive fiberglass job before π΅π΅ So far we probably spent more time contemplating how to proceed rather than actually making progress π ! Please take a lot of video and make a couple of episodes JUST ABOUT the repairs, how you approached them, the things you had to consider, the way you set up, the application, how more or less difficult you found it to be, the improvements you made in doing the repairs. I am curious about how you will match and apply the gelcoat on the outside as well as how you chose the fiberglass and laid it out. Very happy to see this post.
