April Painting Contest

Contest Categories: The contest is split up into 4 categories, each with its own submission criteria, and each contestant may pick only one category:

Rules: To participate, pick one category, and share a high resolution picture in square format via the Dropbox link below (leave a margin on the sides for re-sizing). Only one picture may be submitted, and you must use your Patreon username as the file name, or the submission will be discarded!

Submissions: https://www.dropbox.com/request/bKvMhFVoRPQ8ZWGumQNK

Deadline: April 25th

Not Allowed: Welcome Pack Minis, Loyalty Rewards, Terrain, Game Aids

Totally Allowed: April Fools Models

The miniatures should be painted by you, no re-sizing over 5% is allowed, and only minor modifications are acceptable. By entering the contest you give OPR permission to share the pictures on our website and social media.

Prize: The community will vote for the best submissions, and the top 3 of each category will get Two special Reward Minis, plus a special 75% Store Discount. As a bonus, one other random participant from each category will also get the special store discount!

Happy Painting!

- OPR Team

Note: The special Reward Minis are not available for sale for the time being, but every few months we will swap them out with new ones, and the current ones will then be released via MMF for purchase.

Update: The April Fools Models are allowed as entries to the contest.

I see a lot of people complaining in favor of participation awards and I, full heartedly, disagree. The unique prizes are what make it worth it. Competition breeds better skill and causes us to work harder when we don't "win" while losing.

Fordy Kay

Too late, I already entered with another model - still good fun :) But great info for everyone else πŸ‘πŸ»

Correction: The April Fools Models ARE allowed to be entered in the contest.

onepagerules

Well, day 3 of printing and the third piece of the base done....might be able to enter with a base coat on it by the time it is all printed lol

Dae

Dunno if I can, but def will be trying too lol

Can I enter with the April Fools Model?

HabMichVerlaufen

already had a 26hr print running, just now started printing the sisters and braziers to get it started. Gonna be a grind to get it ready and painted. Don't have a clear scheme for them either, gonna just be winging it.

Jaramie Strayhorn

Iirc 6+ months later as paid option. So youre both right and wrong? It will be released to everyone as you pay inflated mmf prices

eXar

I think we are comparing oranges and apples here....to me....early acces means...you (and everybody else) have early acces to an (usually) not yet funished product before there is an official release....exclusive means, to me, you do not have normal acces to a product. Like GW putting a model in an armybox that you can not buy separately (yet). So to me these models are both that....and just feels bad....

For the next competition I suggest to allow down scaling beyond 5% so that models and units printed for Regiments are also valid entries.

Explorer

You keep on about exclusive models, they aren't exclusive, the prize is early access. You will be able to get your hands on them eventually, but as a reward for painting, people get access to them a couple of months earlier than everyone else (and free). Only you are stopping yourself from joining in on it, no one else.

Ninja

Prizes no...exclusive models for the chosen few yes....and it all doesn't matter....opr likes this and some of you too...and i and a few others do not like this and feel the "painting competition" would be much better if it would try and include every body instead of giving exclusive models to a few....just my 2 cents.....

Daniel, I've got 10 ratmen militia printing right now. If you want 5 to paint and enter, I'll mail 5 of them to you.

vonTugboat

They said that in time those would be released to everyone, yes.

vonTugboat

Having prizes for people who paint well is not gatekeeping.

vonTugboat

Thought the same and then came the 40+ hour print time πŸ˜‚

I'll be painting up the altar. I may not win, but I will definitely enjoy the process. I see it as a chance to try a new paint scheme, and get out of a rut. Don't focus on a prize you may or may not win, and just have fun, and put paint on something.

Jaramie Strayhorn

Challenge accepted, one Altar coming up.

Jaramie Strayhorn

people will improve because the will join in....they will for sure not improve when they do not enter at all....and it is not a Friendly competition when there is unique prizes to win....a friendly competition would be to reward participation. Also if you want people to improve their painting skills there need to be feed back on their actual painting. but Lets agree to disagree....i just feel its a wasted opertunity.

Because that then defeats the idea of a bit of friendly competition and self improvement... Why would anyone push themselves, try new things and put effort into anything if ultimately their effort means naff all because someone dunks a mini in a paint pot, calls it a day and gets the same reward?

Ninja

There will be other opportunities to earn the prize minis and eventually they will be placed on the MMF store so that anyone can purchase them.

onepagerules

Yes, that's the one.

onepagerules

If they are going to be released eventually...why not release them to all participants now?.....stop the hobby gate keeping....I had hoped OPR was above that

The models will be released to the masses eventually. What are you going to do when things are released as prizes for tournaments, or for attending conventions, then sold to those who couldn't/wouldn't participate?

Ninja

now im really disappointed, my resin printer is broke and im not sure when ill be able to fix it... not that i think one of my paint jobs could land a top 3 anyways.... but the fact that ill never get such a cool ratman.... cuts me deep

Daniel McCormick

Yeah the limited models not being available to all participants kills any interest I have in participating.

Ofnightmare

So is the Legend model the 'Sisters Procession Altar' for this month then?

Jacob Williams

Your painting is not judged in this "competition" anyways. So use it to promote painting for every one...not the few who think they can win

Will the special Reward Minis be given to loyal Patreon subscribers for free when they're released on MMF? I don't know if I'm comfortable with the idea that our $ is being used to produce excess models for sale that we don't get access to.

Jeff Cooper

Then it wouldn't be a painting contest, it would be a 'paint a mini and send us a picture for free minis'

Ninja

With their first announcement that stood firm that they wont be doing that. But yea...

eXar

Make those limited models available to all participants...not just the winners of a popularity contest.....you should (like opr normally does) encourage people to join...prizes shouldn't matter
