Hi Everyone,

Question 1 from Mateus was about bending up to a note, then doing vibrato while staying bent, though it took me a minute to fully understand the question, I gave some good general pinky tips on the way there.

Question 2 from Ethan was pretty straightforward: "Are there more CAGED Basics II lessons coming?" And the answer is yes. Very soon.

Question 3 from Monster Zit was about how much time to spend on lessons: commit everything perfectly to memory or get the concept?

Question 4 from Ronnie was about the CAGED system. I launched into a mini lesson about one of my favorite CAGED concepts laid out in CAGED Soloing and the improved NEW CAGED Soloing, found here.

Question 5 was from Brock, who wanted some tips on how to get cleaner sounding notes from the guitar.

I explained a fun little mode exercise that I like

Ethan and Ronnie, that idea already partially exists in CAGED Soloing, but it will be fleshed out further when I continue my NEW CAGED Soloing series. For now, check out https://www.scottpauljohnson.com/caged-soloing

Ronnie, I asked the same question last week. I also suggested PDFs for each CAGED shape showing the progressive chord (i.e., I, ii, iii, IV, etc) within the shape. I'm on the "band" wagon for your idea

I'm a newbie here and I'm enjoying everything so far (like all the other people) so first of all, thank you! My question is; what would you recommend to get clean, pitch perfect sound when playing the guitar? I searched a lot but couldn't find a proper answer about the technique, correct amount of pressure I should have over the fingerboard and the right hand. Could you share some tips and techniques for producing better, clear sounds? Thanks!

Brock

Hey Scott, couple office hours ago you touched on a question around playing the chords in a scale within or near a caged position. thought it was a great topic, wondering if you could dig a bit deeper, specifically as the scale chords lend themselves to scales/improvising shapes. For example, simple G-C-D (I iv V) progression, if playing a G in the 'C' shape and then the other chords near. thanks much

Hi Scott. I just started here and am going through the major and minor scale lessons. I'm someone who has to work pretty hard to commit things to memory and I'm wondering if I should be memorizing the notes in each scale, or is just understanding how they work and knowing how to figure them out fine at this point?

Monster Zit

I've got one coming out tomorrow!

Will there be any more CAGED Basics II lessons or are three lessons the end of the series?

Ethan B

Hey Mr. Johnson. All right? Dude could you help me with this one please? Having problems doing late vibrato with my pinky. Not sure if there is a name for this... I make the bend and let the note scream and an end I wanna do quarter vibrato effect but my finger pinky do not want to. I tried floating my thumb, pressing the guitar with my palm in the back, pushing with other fingers to get some help, muting with the point finger or with the right hand... nothing is working... he (the pinky) do not want to move nicely. How to make my pinky muscles to move man? Any exercise? Appreciate, peace out! ✌🏻
