What I'm working on - April 2025

Hello Patrons :)))

Believe it or not, I'm still working on the same video as last month! Step Up mania persists. As often happens to me, I got a little overwhelmed by the scope, and it took me a while to start writing. I was so focused on watching movies and otherwise researching that it was hard to know where to start. But you'll be happy to know that I've finally gotten into the groove of the script and just finished my section on Step Up 3D, so I'm over halfway done with the draft! I'll definitely want to go through a few times to revise once I'm finished, but I'm feeling a lot more confident now that I've banged out this much of it. I'm hoping that once I'm done writing, shooting and editing will come relatively quickly, since it's been so long since I've released a video and I'm getting kind of antsy about it.

Making videos is hard! With my 'real' job, plus the podcast, I just feel busy all the time these days. But I do think this one will be a banger. And at 13 pages with two more movies to go, it should be a decently long one, so hopefully the wait will be worth it. I think I've stumbled across some good insights just while writing, like a simple but good analysis of the opening credits sequence of the first Step Up movie, and drawing a connection between the use of Robin Thicke's mambo-inspired Everything I Can't Have in Step Up 2 and the film's overall theme of cultural appropriation (lol).

I was thinking of recording a little something in the meantime for the Patreon-- maybe a casual rundown of some of the movies and TV I've seen in the last couple months and haven't gotten a chance to talk about anywhere? I'll try to get that done soon.

Next up, I get to rewatch two of my favorite (?) Step Up movies: Revolution and All In. The Ryan Guzman years. Revolution may be a bit of a chore, but All In is going to feel like the comforting arms of an old friend. Save me, Every Little Step dance sequence.... Save me........

Thanks so much for your support this month!! Having support on Patreon makes me feel safe spending a little more time making a video I'm truly proud of instead of cranking out shorter vids that don't do as much for me.

Good luck with your busy life! That definitely sounds hectic. Take your time with all your videos and the podcast stuff - I would love to hear about the shows and movies you've been watching lately, but I know it takes a long time and don't want to rush you

on my Google news cards I saw a crazy spoiler for 9-1-1; I don't even watch and only know it through you. but for the invested people who I imagined got spoiled reading that headline...i was so offended and blocked them 😀 so excited for your new vid!

???? I have never heard of this, every element you mentioned is crazier than the last

You'll be happy to hear I took one for the team and re-watched Dance Flick (2009). I thought a parody movie could be a fun addition to your video, but unfortunately... it was awful. The Channing Tatum character was kind of funny, but it was hard to look past the fat suit and literal blackface. Not even Amy Sedaris could save this one.

I think I'll just have to make a s8 video as planned once the whole thing has aired, because it's way too much to cover off the cuff on the podcast lol. I gotta rewatch the whole thing and get my thoughts in order!!

SPEAKING OF RYAN GUZMAN, there's so much more 9-1-1 lore now. The beenado didn't prepare us.
